Hello

We need to buy all new furniture for our new build.

The current pieces are just inexpensive temporary furniture that wouldn’t survive a move.

The furniture should definitely be of good quality and suitable for a new build 😀 (so nothing from, for example, discount stores). Durability is also very important.

Which furniture brands should we consider for living room cabinets (sideboard, lowboard, etc.), tables (dining table, coffee table), and upholstered furniture (sectional sofas)?

Which furniture brands offer good quality in the mid-price range?

The following brands come to mind:

Musterring
Hülsta

What other brands are there in the mid-price range where quality and price are well balanced?

Not everyone wants furniture that lasts a lifetime. There are people who enjoy redecorating from time to time. Surely, your taste has changed since you were 18, right?
Therefore, it is usually sufficient if the furniture lasts 10 years rather than 25+.

Furniture is generally hard to sell (exception: IKEA). For this reason, investing in expensive brands is often not worthwhile if you plan to replace the items anyway.

If you are looking for furniture that will last a lifetime, of course you should look elsewhere, that’s clear.
However, we use our furniture for a very long time, and I think most of the pieces will last us at least 10 years.

Ten years is not a long time for furniture.
My Besta units are about 12 years old now, and I don’t find anything better in design that would be affordable.
My Malm furniture will last another 10 years, I’m sure of that. The same goes for Ivar.
And yes, I’m still alive… so is this furniture really “for life”?

Apart from (most) sofas, furniture can also last 50 years. It just looks outdated then…
And of course, people rearrange or redecorate from time to time… some sooner, others later.

So our living room cabinets were bought second-hand... Bonde series... no longer available. They will last forever because they are really well and solidly made. And nothing will happen with a Kallax or Pax either, as long as they are used normally and not moved frequently.

So what now? At first everything is great, you have the whole house (or the entire apartment) filled, but in the end it’s not suitable for the long term?
First you sugarcoat it, then you come to a different conclusion…

Well, everyone will certainly judge that differently.
By furniture for life, I mean furniture that is of such quality that it lasts “forever.”
If our pieces last 15 years, then that’s perfectly fine.
Maybe tastes will change at some point.

That’s a great outlook 🙂
Our furniture isn’t that old yet.
My partner’s Malm dresser is probably 8 or 9 years old, mine will be 6 this autumn.

I think they will serve us well for several more years.

“Furniture for life” means different things to different people.
I used that phrase to refer to especially high-quality furniture. And I don’t think that applies to Besta and the like.
They are well made and certainly good enough for most needs, but not much more than that.
Of course, how well they last depends on how you care for them.

For us, that’s perfectly fine 🙂
