SitopeoHello everyone, I’m currently considering which lighting systems would work well with the Ikea Besta sideboards. It’s not just about aesthetics, but also functionality and technical aspects like compatibility, installation, and power supply. I’m interested in which light sources or light strips can be integrated without disrupting the clear, minimalist design of Besta. Additionally, it’s important to me whether dimmable solutions or smart options can be connected, as I value flexibility in lighting. Does anyone have experience or tips on which lighting systems you have combined with Besta sideboards or would recommend? Perhaps also from a practical perspective regarding installation effort and operation? I’m looking forward to your opinions and recommendations!

The installation is very simple, you can perfectly mount the LEDs inside, and the light looks very stylish without being overpowering. I especially like the dimmable versions, as they allow you to adjust the ambiance individually.
What’s also great is that the power supply usually runs through a power adapter that can be discreetly hidden—keeping the appearance clean! By the way, if you like smart controls, Ikea Tradfri products fit well and aren’t overly expensive.
I’m curious to hear what others think about better alternatives—give it a try, you’ll be impressed!

Interesting input from BASTIANTI, but I think it is important to carefully weigh the actual pros and cons in such matters. LED strips are certainly a popular choice, but the quality of the light sources is not always ideal. Especially low-cost strips often have a short lifespan or uneven light distribution.
It is also important to consider how heat dissipation is managed inside the closed Besta cabinet, since LEDs produce little heat, but the confined space of the cabinet can definitely be a limiting factor.
That is certainly an advantage, but I recommend opting for quality products with good specifications, possibly with an additional cooling profile.
For this reason, I would also approach smart systems with caution, as some generate a certain amount of heat or are more complicated to install. The question of power supply should also include cable management, since clean lines are important for the design.

I feel the same way as you, Sitopeo – I initially wanted a smart solution as well, but when it came to installation and reliability, I reconsidered twice. For my Besta sideboards, I ultimately chose permanently installed LED strips that provide a warm white tone.
Although it required some effort to carefully glue everything in place, the result is really nice and creates a pleasant ambient light in the room.
I share this concern, which is why I left ventilation gaps especially on the sides and avoided electronics that generate additional heat.
That reassures me, the strips have been working flawlessly for several months now.
My advice: definitely pay attention to quality, and if possible, secure the lighting beforehand with stronger adhesive tape to ensure it lasts a long time.

Hey Sitopeo, interesting question with a lot of potential! Personally, I love enhancing a Besta sideboard with indirect lighting – for example, LED strips that aren’t directly visible but reflect light off the back.
It looks very clean and really elevates the room. 😎
I completely agree, and to add: make sure the light color matches the overall interior style. Warm white is suitable for living areas, while cool white works better for workspaces.
I also find small smart controllers fun, as sometimes you can program cool scenes – it makes everything feel more lively. But yes, it has to fit the user. Good luck with your project!

LED strips are the ultimate solution for Besta sideboards. Simply stick them inside and place the power supply under the cabinet.
You can add a dimmer separately, and smart control works with compatible systems (e.g., Zigbee).
Installation is easy, just measure and plan carefully beforehand. Important: pay attention to cable management—that makes all the difference. Done!
