Hello everyone, I am planning to equip my IKEA Besta shelves with suitable lighting and am looking for recommendations on lighting that not only looks good with the shelves but is also practical for everyday use. It is important to me that the lights are not only stylish but also provide sufficient and even illumination without glare or disruptive shadows. The shelves are mostly white or dark brown, and I would like a solution that blends harmoniously and is easy to install—preferably with LED technology due to its energy efficiency and long lifespan. Does anyone have experience with specific brands, models, or mounting methods? What about suitable color temperatures to create a cozy atmosphere while still providing enough brightness for tasks such as decorating or working on the shelves? I look forward to your suggestions!

It is important to consider not only the color and brightness but also the ease of maintenance and energy efficiency. LED systems with a modular design are particularly recommended, as they allow individual components to be replaced or expanded as needed. Another factor to consider is the beam angle of the LEDs – too little diffusion creates spotty light patterns, while too much diffusion can result in overly diffuse illumination. Fixtures with a beam angle of about 120 degrees are ideal. Installation should preferably be tool-free, using methods such as adhesive strips, clips, or magnets, to avoid damaging the shelves, which usually have painted surfaces.

For lighting IKEA BESTA shelves, I specifically recommend LED modules with a neutral white color temperature (around 4000 Kelvin), as they provide a pleasant balance between warm and cool light.

I can confirm exactly that. 4000 Kelvin is a good choice for work and living areas because it keeps rooms from feeling too cold while still providing enough clarity, especially when searching for or organizing items on the shelves.

For these two colors, aluminum LED profiles are recommended, which come in white or black finishes. This allows you to match them to the Besta shelf. The profiles also prevent overheating and provide a clean line of light. Conveniently, many products already include integrated mounting systems to simplify installation.

I can only agree! Simple, stylish, and you can be creative with the arrangement. Plus, they often work with dimmers or control systems to create different atmospheres – practical and fun at the same time. 😉

Thank you all for your detailed tips and suggestions! In summary, LED lighting with a color temperature between 2700 and 4000 Kelvin, ideally dimmable, seems to be recommended, with the fixtures visually matching the shelving unit. I find the recommendation of aluminum profiles particularly interesting for good heat dissipation and a clean look, especially when color-coordinated with the BESTA shelving. I will now look for such LED solutions while also considering ease of installation to avoid damaging the shelving. If anyone has additional advice on specific brands or power options (battery-operated versus mains connection), I would be very grateful!
