Hello everyone,

I am planning to equip my IKEA Besta furniture with LED lighting to significantly improve both its appearance and functionality. I am particularly interested in which LED lighting systems or kits have proven to be especially recommended in practice.

Important factors for me are easy installation on the furniture, the brightness and color temperature of the LEDs, energy efficiency, and possibly the option to control the lighting via remote control or app. It would be great if you could share your experiences with specific brands or products that fit perfectly with the cabinet and internal dimensions of Besta.

Does anyone have tips on particular products suitable for interior lighting of Besta units or experience with custom DIY solutions?

I look forward to a constructive discussion and helpful recommendations!

I can personally recommend the LED strips from IKEA, which integrate well with the BESTA furniture units. They are easy to install and provide good quality white light. For more flexibility, sets with dimmers are a good option.

Hello Knudhau,

your question is very well formulated and covers important criteria that should definitely be considered when choosing the right LED lighting for IKEA BESTA furniture. Compatibility with the dimensions as well as control options are particularly crucial.

In addition to the IKEA-branded LED strips already mentioned by Germanro, I would like to point out that for interior furniture lighting, LEDs with a color temperature of about 2700 to 3000 Kelvin (4900 to 5400°F) usually feel more pleasant – this creates a warm white, cozy atmosphere. Brighter light around 4000 K (7200°F) tends to be more neutral and offers better visual clarity, which can often be helpful indoors.

Regarding installation: Many use self-adhesive LED strips that can be attached inside on the sides or back panels. There are also lights with built-in motion sensors that turn on automatically when the doors are opened, which I personally find very convenient.

If you want more control, some systems now also offer smart features like app control and color changing. However, this obviously comes at the cost of a higher price and more complex installation.

I’m happy to help you with detailed questions about specific products or installation!

This is an important point, as the ability to adjust the length and the ease of installation are significant advantages of self-adhesive LED strips.

I recommend carefully measuring the interior dimensions of the BESTA furniture before purchasing and choosing LED strips that can be cut if necessary without losing functionality. Also, make sure the LEDs have sufficient brightness – at least 300 lumens per meter (approximately 91 lumens per foot) are suitable for most furniture applications.

Additionally, consider the power supply and connection options. Some LED systems require special adapters or operate on 12V voltage, which is crucial for safety and compatibility.

If remote control operation is desired, I suggest systems with an RGB controller that allows easy color changes, although warm white or cool white remain the most common options.

The type of lighting you choose also depends greatly on how you use the furniture and your personal preferences. I have had good experiences with brands like Philips Hue Lightstrip and affordable alternative LED strips, but especially IKEA’s own options provide a reasonable price-performance ratio.

Thanks for the feedback! How do the IKEA LED strips perform in terms of brightness and color temperature? I’ve read that some LEDs can be too cool or too warm, which can affect the appearance and atmosphere of the room.

Exactly, I’m also interested in the control options. Has anyone had practical experience with IKEA LEDs that can be controlled via remote? Are the cables and connectors long and flexible enough to be discreetly integrated into the BESTA units?

Also make sure the LEDs have sufficiently high brightness – at least 300 lumens per meter (3 feet) is suitable for most furniture applications.

Are there any references regarding IKEA products or similar alternatives? I’d prefer not to have too dim interior lighting, but also want to avoid overly harsh light.

I look forward to more user experiences and advice.
