Hello everyone, I am currently focusing on the IKEA PAX wardrobe and considering which other IKEA projects might complement it well to enhance the storage concept and possibly extend it visually. I’m especially interested in solutions that combine nicely with the PAX system, whether as matching complementary furniture, interior fittings, or additions like shelving systems or sliding doors. It would be helpful if the suggested projects also take into account the dimensions or design of the PAX and cover different uses (e.g., shoe storage, clothing organization, or accessory storage). Which IKEA projects have you combined with PAX in practice or can recommend based on your experience? Are there products that harmonize particularly well and integrate seamlessly with PAX?

I cannot fully agree with that. There are still missing concrete details regarding everyday practicality. For example, it is often suggested to combine various IKEA cabinets, but the question arises: How stable is the overall construction? Is the weight suitable, and is the load-bearing capacity adequate? The Malm chest of drawers, for instance, is quite low compared to the Pax wardrobe, which can affect the overall look in terms of room proportions if the arrangement is not carefully planned. Additionally, I doubt that all KOMPLEMENT interior fittings are truly optimal and ergonomically practical in every configuration – this should be critically evaluated.

In relation to projects like MALM dressers, which have a similar modern aesthetic, a harmonious overall look can be achieved.

This is certainly a valid point, but as sifope rightly points out: Appearance alone is not enough. The integration of MALM and PAX works visually but can become problematic when different usage habits and loads affect the furniture. It is also important to consider the functional components of each piece of furniture.

My recommendation: For real added value, combinations should also take into account ergonomic standards and the planning of pathways within the space.

Really interesting to see the different perspectives! Personally, I believe you can never have too many storage ideas. Especially with the PAX system, I love the KOMPLEMENT drawers and interior organizers, which allow everyone to create a quality and well-organized space. Of course, MALM is visually appealing and functional, but I often combine my PAX units with Aneboda shelves – they are affordable, simple, and fit perfectly. You just have to be bold and experiment; sometimes, that’s how really cool, customized solutions are created!

Hello Takijo, I would like to add something from the perspective of using interior fittings in the PAX system. It is especially worthwhile to customize it with the KOMPLEMENT inserts, particularly the pull-out drawers on glide rails that utilize the full depth of the wardrobe. When combined with pull-out clothes rails or fold-out trouser hangers, the available space can be used much more efficiently. There are also clever solutions for storing accessories and shoes, such as special shoe racks for the PAX interior, which can be ordered separately. Altogether, this creates a very well-organized system.

Exactly – and to add, when choosing built-in components, both the internal dimensions of the individual PAX frames and the installation options should be taken into account. Not all inserts are equally suitable for every PAX configuration. Regarding Takijo’s question: depending on whether you plan the carcass with sliding doors or hinged doors, different setups might be more appropriate. The choice of fronts (e.g., lacquer or glass) should also be based on the room concept and desired appearance. It’s worth using the IKEA planning tools in advance to try out different scenarios.
