Hello everyone, I’m currently planning my walk-in closet and considering which IKEA product lines work particularly well as a complement to PAX. Specifically, I’m interested in which series or components you find harmonize well with PAX in terms of appearance, functionality, or modularity. I’m thinking, for example, of shelves, sideboards, or drawer inserts that meaningfully expand the system or optimize storage space. I’d also appreciate any tips on creative combinations you might have tried yourselves. What should be especially considered when supplementing PAX? I’m grateful for any suggestions!

Hey, I really like the PAX system – the base is incredibly flexible. What I’ve always found great as a complement are the BESTÅ cabinets. They fit well visually because they are simple and offer different fronts. If you’re going for a more modern look with the PAX doors, BESTÅ with glass or wooden doors can look really elegant. My tip: try using a few BESTÅ elements as a sideboard or open shelves to add some contrast. This way, the space feels lively and not too uniform.

And when it comes to drawer inserts, I highly recommend the VARIERA boxes – practical, versatile, and very easy to combine.

In my opinion, a solid complement to PAX is definitely the KOMPLEMENT system, especially the shelves, drawer inserts, and sorting aids. These are specifically designed for PAX and allow for optimal use of space. Additionally, the MULIG clothes lift helps make better use of storage in taller PAX wardrobes, which is particularly beneficial in rooms with high ceilings.

For a visual complement, the Hemnes series works very well if you want to combine a more classic wood look with PAX. The matte fronts of the Hemnes dressers provide a nice contrast to the typically smooth PAX fronts.

I partly agree with JAPLO but would like to go into more detail because there are some important considerations when combining it with PAX.

Firstly, PAX is extremely flexible. The organization options with internal fittings such as drawers, pull-outs, and shelves are excellent, but the overall look can quickly become monotonous if you rely solely on this system.

That’s why I find the combination with the IVAR shelving system interesting. IVAR is not only sturdy but also stands out with its natural wood appearance, adding a nice, warm accent. IVAR shelves and box modules can be placed next to each other or arranged around the PAX units. However, when choosing colors, it’s important to maintain some harmony so the result doesn’t look too chaotic.

Important: When planning a new purchase, you should check the following technical parameters: the carpentry dimensions of PAX (depth, height), mounting options for the complementary series (wall mounts, screws), and the load capacity of the components. IVAR is in a different league compared to the PAX modules in this regard.

In conclusion, for a successful combination, I recommend creating a preliminary sketch that includes both measurements and material details. This will help avoid unpleasant surprises later when fitting the furniture together.

I had a similar question and decided to try a nice combination. To complement my PAX system, I added the Malm dressers – their heights match well, and they have nice drawers that I use for accessories.

What was important to me was having different surface textures and some variation in the handles to avoid a monotonous look. This also makes daily use easier, especially when children sometimes help with the furniture.

By the way, I followed the advice to use the SKUBB boxes as interior organizers. They fit perfectly inside the PAX shelves and help keep socks, scarves, or small items organized. This really helped me keep the clutter under control.

I see it differently: Although the BESTÅ series appears flexible at first glance, for true PAX enthusiasts the look is simply too different. PAX has such a minimalist style that I almost consider Bestå a kind of outlier—especially if you value a consistent overall appearance.

I think it’s much better to stick with PAX and rely on its internal expandability instead of mixing in other series. For example, the PAX KOMPLEMENT shelves or even the SKUBB organizer. I reject combining styles that don’t match exactly, as it usually comes across as forced. You can almost see PAX as a design statement and shouldn’t try to blend it with something else.
