Hello everyone, I am currently looking into IKEA PLATSA furniture and have a specific question where I hope to benefit from your experience and knowledge: Which wheels or casters of IKEA PLATSA furniture are especially durable and suitable for heavier loads? I am interested in both the material quality and the craftsmanship of the wheels, as I want to put PLATSA cabinets on casters and rely on long-term stability and safety. Are there differences in the wheels depending on the model, and do you have tips on which versions are particularly robust? Thank you in advance for your detailed assessments.

Standard PLATSA casters are designed for about 15 kg (33 lbs).

Haha, I should have paid attention to that when moving my furniture – my casters nearly fell apart when I tried to roll everything through the apartment! 😅 Metal cores really add more durability, so you can even roll over a bit roughly without worrying about them breaking.

That is true; however, this raises questions about the quality of the connection between the roller and the panel element. A high-quality roller is of little use if the brackets or mounting points cannot handle higher loads. Therefore, always check whether the furniture itself allows reinforcements for heavy loads.

Exactly. Additionally: PLATSA frames are originally designed for light to medium loads. Adding extra reinforcement, for example with metal profiles inside the modules, significantly increases stability. To be on the safe side, it is best to use them only on level floors with sturdy casters and avoid overloading.

Extra tip: If you use PLATSA furniture on casters, buy casters with a locking brake. This significantly increases safety for heavier furniture.

This is an important tip. Casters with a locking brake prevent movement, especially for heavier furniture on smooth floors. This is standard in workshops or kitchens.

Summary: For heavy loads, choose PLATSA casters with a metal core, large wheels, and a locking brake. Material quality, load capacity, and proper mounting must be compatible. Otherwise, it is better to use alternative casters.
