Hello everyone,
I am looking for recommendations on which IKEA Platsa furniture units are particularly suitable for storing and organizing pet supplies. Specifically, I am interested in modules or combinations that are sturdy enough to hold food, toys, grooming tools, and possibly cage or aquarium accessories.
I am also concerned with the ability to customize the furniture so that it is both functional and visually unobtrusive, as well as space-saving in the living area.
Has anyone had experience with Platsa and pet supplies? Which options can support heavy loads and are also easy to maintain? I look forward to your tips!

It depends on what kind of pet supplies you want to store. In my experience, closed PLATSA units with doors are suitable for food and grooming items because they keep out dust and are sturdy.
I agree with that. The base cabinets with a depth of 40 cm (16 inches) offer more stability. However, if you also want to organize smaller items, combinations with drawers are useful, which you can neatly sort with boxes. Just be mindful of weight limits, especially for open storage.

It is worth considering whether prioritizing function over design might be more practical for pet furniture. Of course, PLATSA is versatile, but when it comes to moisture or dirt—especially with dogs or cats—there could be limitations.
I would focus more on washable surfaces or furniture that can be combined with plastic or metal containers, for example. Otherwise, cleaning often remains difficult.

I find it a bit exaggerated because PLATSA is primarily a modular storage system for living spaces. Sure, you can put almost anything in it, but I have my doubts about whether it’s the best solution for pet supplies.
Pets can be unpredictable and often damage furniture more quickly than expected. Open shelves or the thin shelves are real weak points when you want to store heavy pet food containers or aquarium equipment seriously.
The issue of moisture and odors is also often underestimated. Furniture with special coatings performs better in this regard, which PLATSA does not offer.
