Hello everyone, I am currently planning the layout of our new bedroom and considering buying an Ikea Pax wardrobe. Since there are many options in terms of size, interior organization, doors, and accessories, I would like to know: Which Ikea Pax wardrobes are particularly suitable for a bedroom?

It is important to me that the wardrobe provides enough storage space for clothes, shoes, and possibly bedding, without looking too bulky. The dimensions should also be well suited for a room of about 3x4 meters (10x13 feet). Does anyone have experience with which Pax models work best in terms of interior layout and functionality? And are there any tips regarding doors (swing vs. sliding) and interior fittings specifically for a bedroom?

I think the topic of "Which Pax wardrobes are suitable for the bedroom" is discussed here a bit too cautiously. Of course, sliding doors save space, but they can also be somewhat ‘risky’ in terms of durability.

Sliding doors are great if you don’t have space for doors that swing open. But if you have enough room to move around, hinged doors look much more elegant and are easier to install.

I agree with that, but I would go even further: If you have space, don’t buy sliding doors! They limit usability, especially if you want to clean or rearrange things quickly.

Also, regarding the interior layout, I would recommend flexible solutions with removable shelves and adjustable rods – there are quite a few options for this in Ikea’s Pax system. However, the myth that the Pax wardrobe is ideal for ‘everything’ should be approached carefully. For large shoe collections or bulky items, other furniture pieces are better.

I advocate for a customized mix.

I have a 150cm (59 inches) wide Pax wardrobe with sliding doors in my bedroom, and I have to say, I’m really happy with it!

The sliding doors are great because I don’t have to worry about the door hitting anything. My bedroom isn’t very large either, so this is really practical.

Inside, I have several shelves, hanging rods, and the small drawers from Ikea, which are perfect for my things. And once you start planning, you can organize the interior exactly how you need it.

My tip: Allow some flexibility when planning so you can adjust the wardrobe later if needed. And don’t worry, installation isn’t that difficult if you take your time 😄

Hello plomi67, based on my experience, I can say the following: The Ikea Pax systems are indeed very customizable, making them an excellent choice for the bedroom.

It is important to measure carefully beforehand and consider not only the room dimensions but also the locations of doors, windows, and radiators.

If you have fewer clothes to hang and more folded items, having more shelves makes sense; otherwise, clothing rods are better. For accessories or smaller items, I recommend interior fittings with drawers to prevent things like underwear or socks from getting lost.

Doors: Sliding doors are great for small rooms or tight spaces, but hinged doors allow full access. In my opinion, stability is often underestimated—sliding mechanisms can become loose over time, while hinged doors tend to be more robust.

Even though the Ikea Pax planner can take some getting used to, be sure to use it—it’s worth it!

If you have any questions, I’m happy to help.
