Hello everyone, I am currently planning the layout of our new bedroom and considering buying an Ikea Pax wardrobe. Since there are many options in terms of size, interior organization, doors, and accessories, I would like to know: Which Ikea Pax wardrobes are particularly suitable for a bedroom?

It is important to me that the wardrobe provides enough storage space for clothes, shoes, and possibly bedding, without looking too bulky. The dimensions should also be well suited for a room of about 3x4 meters (10x13 feet). Does anyone have experience with which Pax models work best in terms of interior layout and functionality? And are there any tips regarding doors (swing vs. sliding) and interior fittings specifically for a bedroom?

Oh, that’s a great question, plomi67! I love my Pax system because it’s so flexible and provides a ton of storage space! 😊 For the bedroom, I definitely recommend the standard Pax units with a width of 100cm (40 inches) or 150cm (60 inches), depending on how much space you have, and a height of 236cm (93 inches) – it really makes good use of the room!

As for the doors: sliding doors are perfect if you don’t have space for doors to swing open. But if you have enough clearance, hinged doors look much more elegant and are easier to install. 🙂

Inside, I have a mix of hanging rods, drawers, and shelves – this gives you a lot of flexibility. We store shoes in shallow boxes at the bottom. Feel free to try out the Ikea planner, it’s really helpful and quite fun!

From my perspective, for the bedroom, primarily Pax wardrobes with a height of 201 cm (79 inches) or 236 cm (93 inches) make the most sense because they optimize storage space while still allowing enough room for a clear and organized interior layout. For the interior fittings, I recommend a combination of hanging rails for clothes on hangers, shelves for folded items, and drawers to store smaller belongings.

Regarding doors: sliding doors work well in small rooms since they don’t take up space when opened. On the other hand, hinged doors provide easier access to the entire wardrobe contents, which is especially beneficial for deep wardrobes.

Careful planning is important here, especially if you want to consider floor load capacity and wall mounting.

The Ikea Pax series is especially suitable for bedrooms due to its modularity. With various widths (50, 75, 100, 150 cm (20, 30, 40, 60 inches)) and heights (201 and 236 cm (79 and 93 inches)), the system can be tailored precisely to the room. For a bedroom of about 3x4 meters (10x13 feet), I recommend a combination of 100 cm (40 inches) wide units, as they offer a good balance between storage capacity and clarity.

Regarding the interior fittings, the following components should be considered:
- Clothes rails for hanging garments
- Shelves for folded clothes
- Drawers for accessories and smaller textiles
- Shoe racks or boxes for shoes

The choice between sliding doors and hinged doors depends on the room layout. Overall, I would prefer hinged doors because they provide full access to the wardrobe and are more flexible to use, provided there is enough space.

Careful planning with the Ikea Pax planner is advisable to ensure the dimensions are precisely matched and to avoid issues later on.

It is interesting that swing doors are often recommended here.

This is generally true, but I would critically question whether there is always enough space for swing doors in the bedroom. Especially when the room is already filled with a bed and other furniture, sliding doors can make much better use of the space.

Furthermore, the decision strongly depends on personal usage habits: those who frequently need access to all parts of the wardrobe benefit from swing doors, while sliding doors can be more practical for occasional use.

The price difference should also not be underestimated; sliding doors are usually more expensive and more complex to install. It makes sense to carefully weigh the pros and cons here.

For the bedroom, I recommend:
- Height 236 cm (93 inches)
- Width 100 or 150 cm (39 or 59 inches) depending on available space
- Interior layout: at least two clothes rails, shelves, and drawers
- Sliding doors if there is limited space for movement
- Otherwise, hinged doors for better access
