Hello everyone, I am planning to install an Ikea Pax wardrobe in a rather narrow recess at my home. The recess is about 60 cm (24 inches) wide, 240 cm (94 inches) high, and 60 cm (24 inches) deep. My question is: what Pax options or customization possibilities does Ikea offer that are suitable for such narrow and tall recesses? Additionally, I would be interested to know if there are flexible components or accessories that help maximize storage space without making the wardrobe appear too wide or too deep. I look forward to your experiences and tips, especially regarding different doors or interior layouts.
Please note: Although Ikea’s Pax wardrobe sizes offer a lot of flexibility, the connection points are clearly defined. The options for width are 50 cm (20 inches) and 75 cm (30 inches), and for depth 35 cm (14 inches) and 58 cm (23 inches). For a niche that is 60 cm (24 inches) wide, a 50 cm (20 inches) wardrobe is clearly the most practical choice.
That is correct, but sliding doors require a flat surface in front. In some niches, this may not be possible due to corners or radiators. This should be carefully checked beforehand.
Finally, I recommend measuring everything multiple times before ordering. It’s also best to assemble the wardrobe parts and test them on site before fully securing everything. Be prepared for adjustments or modifications in tight living spaces.

I’d like to share a personal experience: We also had a narrow niche to fill (about 65 cm wide (26 inches)) and chose a 50 cm (20 inches) wide Pax wardrobe with sliding doors. Installing it was not entirely straightforward because the walls were not completely straight, but with some adjustments and careful measuring, it worked out.
The 35 cm (14 inches) depth turned out to be perfect, leaving enough space in the room to move around. Inside, we installed plenty of shelves plus a clothes rail for long coats.
What surprised us: The doors need precise adjustment to prevent rubbing. A stable floor is also important, otherwise the wardrobe will wobble.
For those facing similarly tight niches, I would recommend getting extra spacer strips when purchasing. We used these to even out small irregularities and secure the wardrobe firmly.

A 58 cm (23 inches) deep cupboard in an already tight corner can significantly restrict the room and reduce functionality.
How did you adjust the sliding doors? Were there any specific tips you would recommend to others? Especially since narrow recesses usually allow little tolerance.
The adjustment of the sliding doors was done using the adjustment screws on the rollers. It was important that we fully assembled the doors first and then made fine adjustments with the small knobs at the top and bottom until they moved smoothly and without any scraping.
A small tip: The guide rails should be installed absolutely clean and straight, possibly checked with a spirit level. The floor where the bottom is fixed should also be level, otherwise the doors might stick.
In our niche, leaving about 5mm (0.2 inches) of space from the wall helped; this was also important for stability and ventilation behind the cabinet.

Thank you all for your tips and experiences—they are very helpful for my planning! In summary, I have learned:
- A 50x236x35 cm (20x93x14 inches) Pax unit is the suitable option for a 60 cm (24 inches) niche.
- Sliding doors save space and are better suited than hinged doors.
- When installing, pay close attention to squareness, floor level, and wall clearance.
- The interior design should accommodate long garments and offer many adjustable shelves.
- A small top ventilation gap (~1-2 cm / 0.4-0.8 inches) promotes airflow without causing dust issues.
- Baseboards or skirting boards must be considered or removed.
- Assembly in separate parts with spacer strips provides greater stability.
- Adjusting the doors with adjustment screws is very important.
I will proceed accordingly and report back once the wardrobe is installed! If anything else comes up, I will ask further questions. Thanks again for the constructive and informative discussion!
