I am currently considering purchasing an Ikea Pax wardrobe, which will be used daily. It is especially important to me that the chosen version or specific material is as durable and long-lasting as possible, since the wardrobe will be opened, closed, and sometimes subjected to heavier use regularly. My specific question is: Based on your experience, which Ikea Pax options—such as materials, doors (sliding doors vs. hinged doors), interior fittings, or any special reinforcements—are particularly durable and resistant to daily use? Are there certain combinations that have proven to be especially sturdy in everyday use, or can you notice clear quality differences between specific models? I look forward to your informed opinions and experiences, as making a reliable decision is very important to me.
Additionally, there are differences in door fronts regarding their surface finish. Painted doors are more resistant to scratches and moisture than veneered or foil-covered options. This affects appearance and maintenance over time in daily use.
Furthermore, hinges should be checked regularly and adjusted if necessary to prevent unnecessary wear.
The guide rails on sliding doors are wear parts – they can be replaced. However, with frequent use, this still means extra effort and potential points of failure.

I think this topic is great! :-)
My personal observation: Several Pax wardrobes are in use in my home, one of them with MDF hinged doors, and I’m impressed with how durable they are! The doors are still in excellent condition, no dents or scratches, despite frequent use.
Be sure to choose the right handles that suit regular opening and closing – for example, metal handles feel more robust.
I can only agree with that! Hinged doors feel simply more stable to me and are easier to maintain.

One final practical tip: If you are aiming for maximum durability, you should also pay attention to the load capacity of the shelves.
Ikea offers special metal shelves and shelving systems that distribute weight more evenly and are less prone to bending compared to wooden shelves. This is especially useful for daily use when the cabinet is fully loaded.
I completely agree – the surface finish also plays a major role in maintaining a lasting appearance! Additionally, hinged doors make it easy to replace or adjust hinges, which further extends the service life.
