Hello everyone, I am currently planning the setup of my bedroom and am focusing on the Ikea Pax system, especially the different drawer options. Now I have the question: Which Ikea Pax drawers offer the most storage space? I would mainly like to know which drawer models are particularly efficient in terms of volume and usability, and whether there are differences in materials or versions that affect the storage capacity. Maybe someone has practical experience and can share tips on which drawers are the most spacious and functional in everyday use? Thank you in advance!

I can clearly understand how important storage space is with Pax, especially when you have limited room and want to keep everything as organized as possible. I’ve tried several options myself and found that while the depth and width of the drawers help with volume, the height also plays a significant role. Personally, I really like deep drawers with a high clearance, especially when you need to store bulky items. However, I’ve also experienced that sometimes, despite larger volume, it can be difficult to access things if the drawers are too tall.

It might be helpful to consider how often and what exactly you plan to store – this can be crucial in choosing the right drawer type. What sort of items are you planning to put inside?

The largest storage options in Pax are the fully extendable drawers measuring 75 cm (30 inches) wide and 58 cm (23 inches) deep. The most spacious are the tall drawers with a minimum height of 20 cm (8 inches). Using more of these combined with filler panels provides the best result.

For additional information: Ikea Pax drawers are mainly available in low (about 12 cm (5 inches)), medium (about 20 cm (8 inches)), and high (about 40 cm (16 inches)) heights. The high version clearly offers the largest volume, followed by the medium one. The depth of most models is around 58 cm (23 inches), with common widths being 50 cm (20 inches) and 75 cm (30 inches).

I would recommend ensuring full extension of the drawers, as this allows you to make optimal use of the storage space. Combining several high drawers creates more directly usable space than stacking many shallow ones.

Drawers with fronts made of wood or metal do not significantly affect the storage capacity; they are more a matter of design.

Hello JOSTTI, I have a Pax system myself with different types of drawers, so I can offer you some practical tips. Deep drawers naturally provide a lot of storage space, but factors like stability and ease of use should also be taken into account.

I completely agree with that. I use the high drawers because they provide the maximum storage capacity. Keep in mind that this also allows you to distribute weight more efficiently by storing heavier items at the bottom. If you want to store many smaller items, combined inserts within the drawers can help optimize the space.

If you need tips on stability or installation, I’m happy to assist.

This is an important point that I can confirm from personal experience. Large drawers are great, but without proper organization, they can quickly become chaotic. Inserts, dividers, or small boxes really make everyday use easier.

I would also add that you should pay attention to the quality of the drawer slides. Full-extension slides with soft-close are more comfortable and prevent the drawers from becoming difficult to open when fully loaded.
