Hello everyone,

I am currently working on optimizing my Ikea Pax wardrobe system and have encountered a specific issue with the wardrobe doors. Since I highly value a pleasant indoor climate and want to avoid any disturbing noises especially in living and bedrooms, I would like to know: Which Ikea Pax doors close the most quietly?

I have already tried a few different options but am still unsure if there are doors with special damping elements or particular designs that are generally quieter when closing.

It would be great if someone could share their experiences with the different types of doors (e.g., solid doors, mirrored doors, sliding doors, etc.), ideally including information about the closing mechanisms or additional options for noise reduction.

Thanks in advance for your support!

The quiet doors from Pax are usually those equipped with soft-close hinges. Full doors with soft-close are quieter than sliding doors without damping. If sound is really important, I would definitely recommend the soft-close option.

As a supplement: Ikea’s Pax systems generally offer two types of doors, which also differ in their noise performance.

- Hinged and folding doors are often fitted with soft-close hinges when installed correctly, significantly reducing slamming noise.
- Sliding doors usually do not have a soft-close feature, so they tend to be somewhat louder when closed.

The material used is also important. Solid doors made of wood or MDF with a certain thickness dampen noise better than thinner or fully glazed doors.

If possible, it is recommended to retrofit or add soft-close hinges as an accessory if the doors do not come with them as standard.

Overall, this results in an almost silent closing system, which is especially pleasant in bedrooms or living rooms.

Hey Manfredken, great question! 👐 I spent a long time deciding which doors to choose for my Pax, and I can only recommend: go for the solid doors with soft-close hinges! They are really a blessing for the ears! 😍

For the first few weeks, I had the standard doors – a really annoying rattling sound! As soon as I installed the soft-close ones, everything was quiet! 👍 This not only saves your nerves but also protects the doors!

Good luck with your choice, you’ll definitely get it right!

Soft-close doors are definitely the quietest. Sliding doors without damping are louder, but depending on the type, there are also sliding doors with soft-close.

If you want to be on the safe side, choose solid doors with soft-close hinges.

Oh yes, I know that all too well! 😂 The standard doors rattle like crazy, and only then do you realize how calming a gentle close really is.

I even added felt pads to the inside edges of the doors – this further cushions the impact if the doors happen to close a bit too quickly.

So if you want complete silence, the combination of soft-close and felt pads is definitely worth it. They provide the perfect closing flow 🎶
