Hello everyone, I am facing a decision regarding the Ikea Pax wardrobe doors and would appreciate your expertise. Specifically, I am interested in which of the available door options are the easiest to clean—especially concerning everyday dirt such as fingerprints, dust, and occasional stains. I am focusing on the door material (for example, high gloss, matte finish, mirror surface) and how they perform in daily use in terms of ease of cleaning. Are there models that stand out as particularly quick and easy to clean without requiring much pressure or special cleaning products? I would be very grateful for your experiences, assessments, or any technical details. Thanks in advance!

The easiest Pax doors to clean are those with a high-gloss finish. Although fingerprints are quickly visible, they can be completely removed with a damp cloth. Matte paint is more sensitive to stains and requires more frequent thorough cleaning.

There are several important points regarding the ease of cleaning Ikea Pax doors:
- High-gloss doors are made of coated MDF; their smooth surface makes stain removal easier, but they quickly show fingerprints.
- Matte finished doors are visually less prone to showing fingerprints, but their texture tends to hold dirt more and sometimes requires cleaning agents.
- Mirror doors are generally easy to clean, as glass can be well maintained with standard glass cleaners; however, they show any dirt immediately.
- Doors with wood decor or veneer are the most vulnerable, as moisture and cleaning products can damage the surface.
For simple and quick everyday cleaning, high-gloss or mirror doors can be preferred – cleaning is straightforward and usually only requires a damp microfiber cloth.

I agree with this but would like to add that the cleaning method also matters: Avoid aggressive cleaners to protect the surfaces. A soft microfiber cloth and lightly dampened water are usually sufficient.

That’s true, but be careful with how intensely you clean: Mirrored doors can scratch if handled improperly. For everyday use, high-gloss doors are often better because they appear more durable and are easier to clean.

So, if you want the least amount of maintenance in the long run, I recommend high-gloss finishes. However, if visible fingerprints bother you a lot, a matte painted surface might be worth considering, even though it requires a bit more cleaning effort.
