Hello everyone, I am currently working on assembling Ikea Pax wardrobes and am particularly interested in the doors. Since it often happens that doors hang slightly unevenly or do not close perfectly, I would like to know specifically: Which Ikea Pax doors can generally be easily aligned and adjusted so that small misalignments can be corrected using the adjustment options? Are there certain models or door types (e.g., hinged doors, sliding doors, folding doors) that are considered especially easy to align in practice? I am planning to get a Pax wardrobe with two hinged doors and want to minimize effort when aligning them in the future. It would be great if you could share your experiences or any specific tips for adjusting the doors.

To be honest, this troublesome issue affects basically all Pax doors. Anyone who thinks there is a miracle model that fits perfectly on its own is mistaken. The adjustment options are there, but they are often minimal and fiddly. In my experience, hinged doors are the easiest to align because the hinges have several adjustment screws allowing you to correct vertically, horizontally, and in depth. Sliding doors, on the other hand, are a nightmare when it comes to getting them exactly level without scraping when closing.

You have to accept that aligning Ikea Pax doors never goes completely without some fine-tuning—that’s just how it is. My provocative hypothesis: if you want perfect doors, you have to put in some extra effort or install additional fittings.

Hello Robla64, I completely understand your question—when setting up, proper door alignment is crucial for both function and appearance. Regarding your question:

- Hinged doors (the classic swing doors) actually offer the most convenience in terms of adjustment. They usually have three adjustment screws that allow you to modify height, side-to-side position, and depth.
- Pax sliding doors are cleverly designed but offer only limited vertical and horizontal adjustment. The height adjustment can be a bit tricky since it depends on the running rails.
- Folding doors are less common and typically offer fewer fine-tuning options.

My advice is to roughly align the doors before attaching them to the cabinet and then readjust after installation. Slightly adjusting the hinges is always useful. If available, using a level or measuring tape can help a lot.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

I recommend hinged doors. The hinges are easy to adjust and offer the most flexibility. Sliding doors are more difficult to align.

The alignment of the Pax doors depends heavily on the type of door and the hinges used. For hinged doors, concealed 3D hinges are typically standard, which technically allow adjustments in vertical, horizontal, and depth directions. These adjustments are usually made using small screws located under the hinge cover:

- Vertical: This allows you to slightly raise or lower the door, which is especially important for uneven floors or minor installation deviations.
- Horizontal: This adjustment regulates the gap between the doors.
- Depth: This setting prevents the door from protruding too far or sitting too close to the cabinet frame.

For sliding doors, the mechanism is different: the doors run on a track at the top and are guided at the bottom. Vertical adjustment is usually done via a set screw on the sliding carriage. However, horizontal adjustment is more limited because the tracks are fixed. Additionally, sliding doors can more easily get stuck with small inaccuracies.

It is important to have the cabinet panels and drill holes properly aligned because even small deviations can quickly complicate door adjustment. The material (for example, doors with mirrors or glass) can also have a slight impact on the adjustment behavior, as glass allows less warping.

Specific recommendations:

- For simple and precise adjustment, classic hinged doors with 3D hinges are best suited.
- Sliding doors require a bit more care and patience in alignment.
- Folding doors are mechanically somewhat more vulnerable and not as easy to adjust.

Do you have more detailed information about your cabinet model and the doors? That way, I might be able to provide more targeted assistance.

Thanks, that’s a good idea. My Pax wardrobe is 150 cm (59 inches) wide, 236 cm (93 inches) high, with two hinged doors that open in the conventional way. The doors are made of solid wood, painted white—not veneered or glass-like. Although the assembly video shows the adjustment screws, I often worry that with such a heavy door weighing 50 kg (110 lbs), the material might not allow for easy fine adjustments like lighter surfaces do. The doors should also align flush with the adjacent walls later on, so I am interested in the most precise adjustment options possible.
