Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to adjust our bedroom furniture and am considering purchasing a new Ikea Pax wardrobe system. Since we are a family with two children, I want to choose a version that offers enough storage space while also being flexible enough to adapt to changing needs.

I am especially interested in which Pax wardrobe combinations are most popular among families with a similar structure. It would be great to learn how you organize the storage space, whether you tend to use wider or narrower units, and which interior fittings (drawers, shelves, hanging rods) have proven effective.

It would also be helpful to know if there are any compromises regarding cost or space that one should expect, and which dimensions have worked best in practice.

Looking forward to your experiences and tips!

I thought about it for a long time myself, but then I decided on two 50 cm (20 inch) and one 100 cm (39 inch) Pax units! It worked out great for us with two children.

The smaller ones can also be rearranged if needs change.

We went with classic doors because we need full access. I always found sliding doors a bit inflexible, especially when you want quick access to everything.

All I can say is: Just go for it! An Ikea Pax system is really great when you customize the interior fittings to your own needs.

I would like to clarify something regarding the choice of interior elements.

I recommend a mix of:

- Hanging sections for jackets and dresses
- Drawers for small clothing items
- Shelves for folded clothes and boxes
- Possibly pull-out baskets for shoes or accessories

This layout seems logical, but is it really practical for families with small children? Young children often cannot properly operate drawers or baskets on their own, which can lead to disorder.

My experience shows that open shelves or fold-down elements that are easy to see into work much better for children’s self-organization. Storage for adults and children should also be clearly separated to avoid access issues.

I’d like to add a tip: If you’re considering using the Pax combination for the long term, it’s worth choosing removable interior fittings and investing in multifunctional components.

The option to make shelves height-adjustable is also very practical, as it allows you to adapt the storage space easily depending on the volume of your clothing.

Also: The importance of good lighting inside the wardrobe is often underestimated. There are suitable LED light strips or sensors that can be integrated without any problems. This makes daily dressing and undressing much more comfortable and saves time.

I would also like to point out a practical aspect: For families, drawer inserts with multiple compartments have proven especially useful. This way, underwear, socks, and small accessories can be neatly organized, which improves overall visibility.

When it comes to children's clothing, it is also helpful to install a section at a lower height so that kids can reach their belongings independently. This encourages independence and makes daily life easier for parents.

I also find this very important and easy to implement with modular Pax units.

We have two 50cm (20 inches) and one 100cm (40 inches) classic doors. A good combination for two children.

Drawers at the children’s eye level, bottom shelves for adults.

Installation was doable, but better to buy modular.

From my point of view, important:

- 58cm (23 inches) depth
- Combination of 50cm (20 inches) and 100cm (39 inches) widths
- Soft-close drawers
- Modularity for renovations

Sliding doors only if space is limited.
