Hello everyone, I have a question and hope to get some helpful answers here. I am planning to upgrade an older Ikea kitchen to the new Metod system, but I am not clear on which fittings from the Metod system are compatible with older kitchen models.

More specifically, I am interested in whether Metod hinges, such as the standard hinges or other special fittings, can be installed on older frames or cabinet variants without major adjustments to the fronts or cabinets.

I would appreciate any experiences or tips on which Metod fittings work best and what to watch out for during the upgrade to ensure everything remains stable and functional. Thank you!

Some time ago, I had a similar project: I wanted to upgrade a Faktum kitchen a bit and therefore got some Metod hinges.

Conclusion: It definitely works if you adjust the drill holes carefully with a cordless drill and a bit of patience. The Metod fittings are certainly sturdy and have a modern look – even the door installation is better designed than with Faktum.

Of course, it’s not plug-and-play, but if you enjoy DIY projects, the conversion can be done quite well!

If you’re willing to invest some tools and time, I can only recommend it.

Great to see such an active discussion on this topic!

I find these kinds of refurbishments especially interesting because they support sustainability. Instead of buying something completely new, you’re restoring an old item – that definitely has style!

Regarding the question about the fittings: I would definitely recommend doing a hinge test with one door first. This way, you can identify any issues before remodeling the entire kitchen.

And don’t forget: get good screws and possibly suitable wall plugs. You want everything to last long and not become loose soon!

Metod hinges do not fit directly. The drilling distances differ. Adapter plates are necessary or new carcasses are required.

If you want to replace the hinges, pay attention to the drilling hole spacing. Faktum used a 37 mm (1.5 inches) grid with different positions. Metod is stricter in this regard. Otherwise, adjust the drilling or revert to the old ones.

Many Metod fittings only work with Metod carcases. Others do not fit. To reuse old Faktum fittings, look for third-party alternatives.

That’s a good point! The improvements in the functionality of the Metod fittings are certainly a valid argument for accepting the extra effort involved in the retrofit.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has adapted the hinges for corner cabinets or tall cabinets, as the loads are higher in those cases.
