Hello everyone,
I am currently planning a new kitchen layout using IKEA Metod and am focusing on drawers as a storage solution. My question is: Which IKEA Metod drawers offer the best storage options?
I am interested not only in maximizing volume but also in intelligent compartmentalization and easy accessibility. Important factors for me are material stability, drawer height, and the ability to use internal organizers.
Are there any experiences with the different widths and heights or recommended combinations to equip smaller kitchens with maximum efficiency?
Looking forward to concrete tips and personal experiences!

The best storage solution for IKEA Metod drawers results from a combination of several factors:
- Material: Metal sides with soft-close mechanisms are more durable and provide smoother operation.
- Height: Deep drawers (with heights of 40cm (16 inches) or 60cm (24 inches)) are ideal for large pots and pans, while shallow drawers (20cm (8 inches)) work well for cutlery and smaller utensils.
- Width: 60cm (24 inches) wide drawers maximize storage space but may not be suitable for smaller kitchens or tight spaces.
Using internal organizer systems, such as inserts made of bamboo or plastic, also helps keep things organized and significantly improves the storage capacity.
In summary, wide, tall Metod drawers combined with well-arranged organizers are the most effective option.

To answer the question in detail, it is important to closely examine the different heights (20 cm (8 inches), 40 cm (16 inches), 60 cm (24 inches)) and depths (37.5 cm (15 inches), which is actually standard for Metod) as well as the widths (30 cm (12 inches), 40 cm (16 inches), 60 cm (24 inches)) of the drawers.
First: Large, deep drawers with a height of 60 cm (24 inches) are very well suited for heavy and large kitchen utensils. These have a higher load capacity because reinforcements are built into the metal sides. The metal runners ensure smooth operation.
Small drawers with a height of 20 cm (8 inches) provide better organization for cutlery and kitchen tools but are limited in volume capacity.
For optimizing storage space, I recommend the following approach:
- Choose smaller upper drawers (20 cm (8 inches)) for frequently used small items.
- Size the middle and lower drawers higher (40–60 cm (16–24 inches)).
- Use adjustable inserts to optimally organize the storage space.
The best combination also depends on individual needs, such as the amount of cookware used or whether special appliances need to be stored.
One last tip: Pay attention to the tall drawers with IKEA’s "Maximera" inner drawers, which offer additional storage space on multiple levels.
How large is your kitchen, and what type of appliances are mostly stored?

How large is your kitchen, and what type of appliances are mainly stored there?Thank you for asking! My kitchen is about 9 sq meters (97 sq ft), so it’s rather compact. The focus is on standard cookware, pots, pans, storage containers, and of course cutlery. Small electrical appliances are usually stored separately. It’s important to me that the interior can be adjusted flexibly, as storage needs may change over time.

My kitchen is about 9 sqm (100 sq ft), so rather compact. In a compact space, it makes sense to avoid wide drawers if they are too bulky or difficult to handle. Instead, a combination of several medium-sized drawers (e.g., 40 cm wide (16 inches)) is recommended.
Furthermore, I would suggest choosing taller lower drawers (60 cm (24 inches)) and upper drawers around 20 cm (8 inches) in height to quickly access frequently used cutlery and small items.
[Also make sure that drawers with steel sides and soft-close mechanisms ensure quiet operation and durability.]
This way, storage can be maximized in a small area without sacrificing comfort.
