Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of my new kitchen using the IKEA Metod system and need to decide on the most practical dimensions for the base cabinets. I am particularly interested in which widths and depths work best for a typical kitchen run, in order to both maximize storage space and maintain functionality.

I am especially looking for practical experiences or recommendations regarding widths of 40, 60, 80, and 100 cm (16, 24, 31.5, and 39.5 inches) — are there differences in stability or usability? The depth is also important: IKEA offers 37 or 60 cm (14.5 or 24 inches), and I wonder which option has proven more practical in everyday use, especially when installing appliances or using pull-out drawers.

Additionally, I would like to know which height for base cabinets is most ergonomic, particularly in relation to countertop height.

I look forward to your practical advice and shared experiences to help improve my kitchen planning!

On the topic of stability with wide IKEA Metod base cabinets:

- 80 cm (31.5 inches) cabinets are common but can sag more easily if assembled incorrectly or overloaded. This is often due to poorly screwed back panels and misalignment.
- Cabinets 100 cm (39.4 inches) wide are, in my experience, only recommended if you reinforce them with center panels or additional supports. Otherwise, there is a risk of twisting, especially under heavy loads or long-term use.

Tip: It’s better to use several 40 cm (15.7 inches) or 60 cm (23.6 inches) modules rather than a few large ones, as these are easier to arrange around corners and to replace or expand if needed.

The countertop installation also significantly affects overall stability: securely fastening it with screws or special brackets helps to stiffen the cabinets.

If you have any questions about the exact assembly or accessories, I’m happy to help.

Choosing the right dimensions is like the perfect recipe for a great kitchen – not too much, not too little, and just right for your taste! 😉

A width and depth of 60 cm (24 inches) is a solid standard that works for almost everyone. But if space is tight, for example in width, 40 cm (16 inches) isn't a problem either.

As for the height – depending on whether you’re tall or more compact, it’s worth measuring the optimal working height. Otherwise, it’ll be like a bad dance partner: uncomfortable and awkward.

I always say: invest a little more time in planning, and you’ll glide smoothly through your kitchen days later on. 😄

My recommendations regarding IKEA Metod base cabinets and their dimensions are based on several criteria:

- Width: 60 cm (24 inches) width is proven practical, as most appliances and accessories are compatible. 40 cm (16 inches) can be used for additions, while 80 cm (32 inches) or wider should be approached with caution due to stability concerns.

- Depth: 60 cm (24 inches) is ideal to accommodate standard countertops and built-in appliances without overhang. The 37 cm (15 inches) deep option is more suitable for niches or narrow kitchens but reduces storage space by almost 40%.

- Height: The standard 80 cm (31.5 inches) cabinet height plus the countertop results in an ergonomic working height of around 90-91 cm (35.5-36 inches). Alternatively, the leg height can be adjusted to suit individual body heights.

Additionally, I recommend paying attention to the quality of the joints and regularly tightening the screws on the frame, as stress on wider cabinets can cause slight movement.

If appliances are to be integrated, it is also important to check the internal dimensions to ensure they fit without issues.
