Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the renovation of my kitchen using the IKEA Metod system and am wondering which additional accessories truly help to make everyday kitchen use easier. I am especially interested in practical elements that improve efficiency and optimize cabinet usage.

For example, I am considering internal drawers, cutlery organizers, or special fittings – what has worked well for you and why?

I would appreciate hearing about your specific experiences to understand which accessories are really functional and durable, so I can invest wisely. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I find IKEA’s pull-out interior drawers very practical. They usually have a good height and make it much easier to access contents compared to regular drawers.

This is especially helpful for pots and pans, making the work significantly easier.

Regarding the question of which IKEA Metod kitchen accessories provide the greatest convenience, I would like to give a structured answer:

- Interior drawers: A significant improvement especially for tall base cabinets, as storage space is used more efficiently and access is easier.
- Cutlery trays and organizational inserts: They optimize order within drawers and prevent clutter.
- Tall cabinets with integrated pull-out pantry units: Ideal for space-saving storage of spices or supplies, easily accessible when pulled out.
- Waste sorting systems: A sturdy, built-in waste separation system in the base cabinet supports recycling and keeps the kitchen clean.

In my view, these four elements are the most functional and useful in the long term.

I would like to go into more detail here because the implementation of additional features depends not only on the components themselves but also on precise installation and individual cooking habits.

Regarding your questions:

- Pull-out drawers: It is important to pay attention to the actual depth of the base cabinets. Some models taper inward or have cross braces that limit full use of the space. A good tip is to use heavy-duty soft-close slides, which significantly enhance comfort.
- Cutlery inserts: Choose materials that are durable and easy to clean. The ones from IKEA are often made of plastic, which is practical, but there are also wood alternatives that are more visually appealing.
- Pull-out pantry units: They save space, but you should check the mechanism—some are stiff to operate or not stable enough for heavy spices or bottles. Make sure to install them on a sturdy mounting system!
- Waste disposal system: There are different systems in various sizes. A combination of two to three bins is recommended, preferably with mounting brackets to prevent slipping.

You should also consider adding extra dividers in the drawers to achieve finer organization.

To assist you more specifically: How large are your cabinets, and how much storage space are you planning overall? Do you cook a lot or rather rarely, and which accessories are most important to you?

That sounds good! My base cabinets are mostly 80cm (31.5 inches) wide and 60cm (23.6 inches) deep. I cook daily, often with several people. Therefore, I mainly need functional organization for cutlery, cooking utensils, and pots, as well as a good waste separation system.

I have so far planned for base cabinets with internal drawers but am uncertain about the fittings that ensure smooth operation and load capacity. Are there recommendations for particularly durable or easy-gliding options?

Hello!

I’m happy to help. Basically, IKEA usually uses soft-close damped slides for Metod cabinets, which work reliably when installed correctly. However, if you plan to store particularly heavy pots or pans, look for internal drawers with full-extension slides – these pull out completely, greatly improving accessibility.

Also, metal slides are generally more durable than plastic guides. There’s the option to install high-quality hardware from third-party suppliers that offer higher load capacity, but often you’ll need to fine-tune this yourself.

What has helped me often: adjusting the slides again after installation. If the drawer then moves smoothly and closes gently, that indicates good quality and proper fitting.

Feel free to ask if you need more details – for example, how to check or adjust the installation specifically.
