bafa65Hello everyone,
I am currently setting up my bedroom with a new Ikea PAX wardrobe system. I have a question: which Ikea base panels or floor elements work best with Ikea PAX?
My main concerns are stability and appearance – I want the wardrobe to stand securely and evenly while resting well on the floor, without having to create a substructure myself. Ease of assembly and moisture prevention are also important to me.
Which floor elements from the Ikea range are suitable for this, especially considering the different PAX wardrobe sizes and types? Are there any special considerations when combining them with laminate, hardwood, or tile flooring?
I look forward to your recommendations and experiences!

Hello bafa65,
Your question about the suitable Ikea base panels for the PAX system is very practical and deserves a detailed answer. Basically, when it comes to PAX, it’s important to consider that the wardrobes require secure load distribution due to their size and weight—decorative base panels alone are often not sufficient.
- Ikea offers various base elements commonly used for wardrobes, such as the Stuva/SNIGLAR frame or the FIXA floor protectors, which are placed under the feet to minimize scratches and movement.
- For a stable foundation, the MAXIMERA pull-out shelves in the PAX system are particularly helpful, as they create a horizontal connection that stabilizes the cabinet frame.
- A possible challenge is uneven flooring. In this case, it’s important to use adjustable feet or a wooden or MDF panel as an intermediate layer, which Ikea provides in different sizes, to better distribute the weight and reduce movement.
- Regarding floor coverings: On laminate and engineered wood flooring, protective mats or special underlays are advisable to prevent damage caused by the weight of the wardrobe and any potential shifting. For tiled floors, attention should be paid to adhesive or anti-slip properties to ensure the wardrobe does not slide.
I would be interested to know the exact condition of your floor surface. That will help tailor the recommendations even more specifically.

Protective mats or special underlays are advisable on laminate and hardwood floorsI completely agree. Additionally, I would like to add:
- Ikea PAX wardrobes have adjustable feet that you can level on uneven floors. Combining them with a stable underlay, such as a thin MDF board, can help distribute the load.
- I do not recommend placing Ikea LÄTTSJÖ or TROTTEN floor panels directly under PAX, as they are mainly designed for packaging or covering and are not strong enough to support weight.
- If you place the wardrobe on tiles, you can use rubber pads from Ikea or a hardware store underneath to prevent slipping and damage.
In short: stable, load-bearing underlays with slip resistance and moisture protection are key.
Hello everyone,
I would like to add some basic information that is often overlooked when choosing the base panels for an Ikea PAX wardrobe.
- The PAX series is modular and its load capacity varies depending on height and width. The larger the wardrobe, the more important it is to have a level and sturdy foundation.
- The adjustable feet are great for compensating minor unevenness. However, if the floor is very uneven, you should definitely create a more level surface before assembling the wardrobe.
- We have found it useful to use thin plywood panels cut precisely to the wardrobe’s width. This ensures more even weight distribution and prevents pressure marks on the flooring.
- Although Ikea does not offer specific base elements for PAX, products such as FIXA floor protectors or multipurpose mats from hardware stores, combined with skirting boards for moisture protection, can work well.
- Extra caution is needed with hardwood flooring, as moisture and localized pressure can cause irreversible damage.
Have you already installed flooring, and how even is the surface? Tips can then be more tailored.
