Haus1986Hello everyone,
in my search for a suitable heating system for a planned newly built two-family house, I am very interested in the opinions of the forum members. Unfortunately, I have not found an existing topic, as most similar threads are mostly influenced by building subsidy programs (e.g., KfW funding), which limit the choice of heating systems.
Information about the house:
-Two-family house with basement
-Freely designed without any restrictions from KfW or similar programs
-Heating required for 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft) living space (ground floor 85 sqm (915 sq ft), upper floor 65 sqm (700 sq ft))
-The upper floor is intended for rental
-Lot size: 762 sqm (8,200 sq ft)
To save money and effort, I want to avoid using a wood stove as supplementary heating. My parents and both of my sisters each have a pellet heating system in their houses, and all three are quite satisfied with it. Therefore, I am currently leaning towards a pellet heating system unless I learn otherwise. A friend of mine chose geothermal heating for his house and has already complained that he cannot get his house as warm as he would like, but I do not have detailed information about the specific circumstances in his case.
I would now like to clarify which heating system is most suitable for me and what funding options are available.
I also have an appointment with an energy consultant soon, and I will, of course, report back here in the forum.
Thank you in advance for your contributions.
Best regards

There are funding options available through KfW and BAFA.
Pellet heating requires a lot of space and is usually chosen when switching from oil to renewable energy.
In the case of your acquaintance, either the system was incorrectly configured or something else went wrong – with a ground source heat pump, it is also possible to have 35°C (95°F) indoors if desired.
