Hello! We are currently planning a house and, since this is not something you do often, we have many questions. Due to the development plan for our plot, we are required to build a KfW 55 energy efficiency house and are now unsure about what type of heating system we need. Builders have given us different advice!

Is it possible to install a standard gas condensing boiler combined with solar water heating, or do we have to use geothermal or air-source heat pumps?

I would appreciate any answers!

Alright, the situation has changed..
I spoke with BAFA at the beginning of the year, and they said there is no prospect of funding for new builds, funding is available for air-to-water heat pumps for existing properties and renovation of old buildings, yes, but not for new builds.

If you have a direct link for this, please send me a private message.

No, I’m going to add it here now – according to certain definitions, this is actually allowed.

That works for me too!

I am currently applying for the Bafa subsidy for new construction – a calculated annual performance factor of at least 4.5 is required. This will be difficult to achieve with an air-to-water heat pump...

Definitely – I was also assuming a ground source heat pump in this case.

There is also financial support available for air source heat pumps, but it is less extensive and the annual performance factor is lower.
