ᐅ Which handles are suitable for Ikea PLATSA?

Hello everyone, I am planning to upgrade my Ikea Platsa cabinets with new handles and am currently a bit unsure about the options. Since the PLATSA series features a modular and flexible system with different fronts and sizes, it’s not entirely clear to me which types of handles work best here—both in terms of appearance and practicality. It is also important to me that the handles are easy to install and ideally match the existing drill holes on the PLATSA doors, so I don’t have to do much redrilling.

Has anyone had experience with specific handles for PLATSA and can offer recommendations? Which materials, shapes, or designs suit the modern but simple look particularly well? Are there any technical details regarding installation or handle alignment that should definitely be considered? Thanks for sharing your advice!

Wood handles are compatible with Platsa if the mounting area is reinforced. Otherwise, use the standard hole spacing of 128 mm (5 inches) and check the screw length.

From an industrial perspective, standard metal handles with standardized hole spacing are the safest choice for PLATSA. Custom solutions are possible but always carry a risk regarding durability.

If a premium look is desired, aluminum profiles or molded handles with integrated covers offer an elegant alternative, though they usually require additional finishing work.

I once had homemade wooden handles on PLATSA – yes, they looked great, but the screws loosened after a few months, despite an additional back plate.

Therefore, it’s better to go with tested handle sets that are precisely matched to the panel. This saves frustration.

Thanks to everyone for the valuable contributions so far, very helpful and detailed!

To add to my previous question: I mainly use closed MDF fronts with foil coating, each 15 mm (0.6 inches) thick, and the cabinets are rather medium-sized – width between 60-80 cm (24-31 inches), height 180-220 cm (71-87 inches). Drawers are not planned for now but might be added later.

This really helps me move forward, as I can now better plan that most standard bar handles with a 128 mm (5 inch) hole spacing should fit. The advice regarding screw length and installation is also very valuable.

The idea of homemade wooden handles sounds interesting, but I will probably go with tested handles to ensure durability.

That seems sensible. Especially with larger fronts, the daily stress on the handles should not be underestimated.

Suggestion: Take a look at matte black or brushed stainless steel handles—they are stylish and very durable.

I can only agree with that. Especially if you focus on sustainability and longevity, these materials are excellent. And if the installation goes smoothly without much hassle, you’ll enjoy them for a long time.
