ᐅ Which garden fence provides privacy screening?

Hello

We have purchased a semi-detached house.

After completion, we want to install a fence around our garden (we hope to have friendly neighbors who will share the costs).

We need about 55m (180 feet) of fencing.

We want the entire fence to have privacy screening and be between 1.6 and 1.8m (5.2 and 5.9 feet) high (this is legally allowed in our area).

Which type of fence would you recommend? We had thought about the standard welded wire mesh fence panels, but the privacy strips for these are quite expensive.

Is there a more affordable option, possibly with a different type of fence?

Requirements for the fence:

No maintenance (so no wood)
Privacy screening
Height between 1.6 and 1.8m (5.2 and 5.9 feet)
Must go all the way to the ground (to prevent our dog, including puppies, from escaping)

Thank you very much for your help

Does this (shown only in gray) refer exclusively to Siberian larch or to larch in general?
I recently spoke with a craftsman from the extended family by marriage, who has over 60 years of experience working with wood and metal. He said that larch eventually turns black...

[A hedge is not an option because it takes time to grow and requires maintenance.

The hedge needs watering during the summer, must be trimmed, and often attracts insects.

We definitely want a fence.

What other fence alternatives are there?

WPC? I’ve heard it shouldn’t touch the ground because it can rot due to morning dew.

Wood – definitely not – you have to regularly paint or stain the fence to keep it looking nice and prevent rot.

The fence should last forever without any maintenance or upkeep.
I guess that leaves only the welded wire mesh fence, right?

If the neighbors don’t agree with the fence or don’t want to contribute, we will set the fence directly on our property line, on our property. No one can object if the development plan or zoning regulations don’t restrict it (and they don’t).]

Tip: Concrete fence. Add a concrete lawn area (just paint it green), and you never have to do any garden work again. Minimalist and clever.

Oh, and if insects and neighbors bother you, it’s best to move to a big city, somewhere in a penthouse with as few neighbors and animals as possible.

I wouldn’t contribute a single cent to such a fence. It’s just ugly, isolating, and off-putting.

[Are rock gardens prohibited by the development plan? Does a gravel strip count as one?]

Bravo!!! I think it’s great that a garden must consist of plants. Such rock “gardens” should be banned:

Garden area with white gravel, palm tree in a circular border, and black planters with small trees.

No one can argue against that if the development plan does not impose any restrictions (which it does not).
If the development plan does not override neighborhood law, then the latter applies, as regulated for you in the Neighbor Law NRW.
Regarding height and construction, Section 35 of the Neighbor Law NRW is decisive: a fence typical for the area, otherwise maximum 120 cm (47 inches).

Currently, Siberian larch is very hard to find or not available at all. My brother-in-law was told by more than one manufacturer to wait until next year.
Oh, that’s really unfortunate. Our wood has been standing since last fall, so I hadn’t kept that in mind.

Honestly, I can’t say. We wanted something that provides privacy but is still a natural material. So we went with wood. Since we didn’t want to repaint every few years, we chose Siberian larch. We didn’t consider any other options.

One can only hope that the neighbor thinks the same way.
