Good evening everyone,

We have now received three fairly comparable offers for our front door. I would like to ask which manufacturer (door and lock) is generally considered the highest quality.

The video intercom system to be used is the Wantec Monolith (with Ekey).

About the door:
- Aluminum
- Total width 1700mm (67 inches)
- Height 2350mm (93 inches)
- Solid door leaf
- Fixed glazing on the side
- RAL7016
- Handle approx. 1800mm (71 inches) high

Offer 1:
Inotherm door 1100mm x 2315mm (43 inches x 91 inches)
Handle 1500mm (59 inches)
Motorized lock BT1020L (Winkhaus)
"5-POINT BOLT SWING BOLT WITH ELECTROMECHANICAL DRIVE - STAINLESS STEEL / CABLE TRANSITION"
==> 4722€

Alternatively with fingerprint scanner in the handle (does anyone know if this is an Ekey?)
"ZAE 76 F PUSH HANDLE - STAINLESS MATT (MAX. MOTIF LENGTH=1800 mm (71 inches)) / FINGERPRINT SCANNER / L=1800 mm (71 inches)"
==> 4928€

Offer 2:
Front door "Aktion Serie ECO - Volaris" 1130 x 2320mm (44 inches x 91 inches)
Handle 1600mm (63 inches)
Motorized lock Fuhr Multitronic 881
==> 5000€

Offer 3:
Hörmann ThermoSafe 1200 x 2470mm (47 inches x 97 inches)
Handle HOE797 (approx. 1800mm (71 inches))
Motorized lock GU S5 Comfort KÜ
==> 5439€

Looking forward to your experiences!

Best regards and thanks in advance

We have the GU lock. It can only be opened electrically. Locking is done automatically and mechanically.

This thread comes at the right time. We want to order the front door in 2 months.

A basic question: Do you need an electronic front door lock if you don’t plan to open the door "smartly"?

Or does the mentioned lock actually have advantages compared to a manual lock?

Hmm, matter of personal preference. For us, the door is always fully locked as soon as it closes because the additional deadbolts automatically engage.

A standard door only has the latch bolt.

That means if you forget to lock the door properly with the key and just let it close and leave for work, it is still locked.

Ok, that’s actually a good point. Constantly locking up in the evening does get on my nerves. But is it really worth the extra cost?! How much does this usually cost?

EDIT: Just saw it myself—about 1000€ gross for an automatic 7-point locking system without fingerprint. More with fingerprint. Ouch.
