Hello,

we are currently quite unsure about the fall protection for our floor-to-ceiling windows. Originally, windows with built-in separation and fixed glazing at the sill height were planned. However, my wife recently became enthusiastic about a modern French balcony.

The enthusiasm cooled down noticeably once we saw the high price of the stainless steel railings. Now we are facing a dilemma.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the two options?

What would be the approximate additional cost for the lower fixed glazing compared to the French balcony?

Everyone has their own prices, and yes, you only know what to expect once you receive the quote.

I also have a fixed glazing panel in the lower part. I think it’s a good solution and visually more appealing than with grids. In the bathroom, the fixed glazing is additionally fitted with decorative glass for privacy. I find it quite practical that you can still see through the upper part normally.

Admittedly, cleaning isn’t ideal. You probably need to get a telescopic pole for that.

I don’t have prices on hand at the moment but could check if needed – below is a “standard” floor-to-ceiling window of the same size installed.

If you don’t want either aesthetics or functionality: secure the boards with an attractive appearance for the building inspection, then remove them afterwards. Where is the dilemma?

If a child ever falls out... the shouting is intense.

That would be great, as a comparison

True. When there’s a child in the house, you can lock it up. It’s also a matter of life stage and attitude towards overprotectiveness..
