Hello everyone, I have a question regarding IKEA Besta cabinets that I want to mount on different types of walls. Specifically, I’m looking for recommendations on which anchors and screws are truly suitable for challenging wall types, such as old brick walls, aerated concrete, or partially plastered concrete walls. I don’t want to just use standard plastic anchors, as I want to ensure the construction is secure and durable. It would be great if you could share tips on which products or brands you prefer. Also, any advice on sizing and the correct choice depending on the wall type would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey rerubla, I find the combination of different wall types really interesting – it often happens in real life, and you always think, "This is going to be tricky." 😅

My tip: I like to try universal wall plugs that can adapt flexibly in situations like this. Of course, they’re not always the perfect solution, but for shelves that you want to secure well without carrying a huge load, they work quite well.

However, if you want to be sure, I definitely recommend toggle anchors for brick. I’ve tested them myself on old houses, and they hold incredibly well. And give the screws a stainless finish – nobody wants them to look rusty after a year 😉.

So, there’s always a solution; sometimes you just need a bit of trial and error!

Hello rerubla, I completely understand your concern. I had a similar situation with an existing building where the walls were very different. What helped me back then was preparing with several types of anchors and, when in doubt, choosing a stronger anchor.

Tip: If you’re unsure, test the anchors first by holding the shelf frame loosely to see if everything fits properly.

Nobody wants stress because of this – it’s better to put in a bit more effort upfront so that everything stays secure and your nerves stay calm.

I wish you the best of luck assembling your Besta shelves!
