Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea Metod countertops and am wondering which colors work best with these surfaces. I know there are different finishes and colors in the Metod range, such as light wood effect, gray, or black. I am particularly interested in how to choose colors for the cabinet fronts, walls, and possibly backsplashes so that the overall look is harmonious while appearing modern and durable.
Are there tried-and-true color combinations or tips on which shades work best—especially if you want to keep design options flexible? It would be great if you could also comment on potential material contrasts and their impact.
Thanks in advance for your experiences and suggestions!

Can you say something about combining with glass or tile backsplashes?Glass backsplashes are great because they are simple and easy to maintain, especially with Metod panels. It’s best to choose a backsplash color that matches the cabinet front colors, so it’s neither too cool nor too warm in tone, to complement amber.
Tiles depend on the style: large, plain formats in neutral tones work well, but small patterned tiles can look chaotic.

I’ve been thinking about mixed colors for the frontsMixed colors can look very elegant, for example white with warm gray tones, or darker finishes on the lower cabinets and lighter ones above. The key is that the colors harmonize well with each other. If you want, I can suggest exact color codes.

By the way, if you decide to remodel later, a glass backsplash can be relatively easy to replace.
Thank you all for the helpful suggestions! To summarize, I am now leaning towards a combination of a worktop with amber wood effect and matte fronts in a warm gray or cream, complemented by a glass backsplash in a warm beige tone.
I also find your descriptions of the difference between matte and glossy fronts interesting – for me, matte is probably a better fit with this combination.
If anyone has any final tips on how to handle accent elements or small touches of color in a kitchen like this, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks again!
