Hello everyone!

I am currently planning to furnish my living room with the IKEA Besta system and came across the question of which color combinations work best with the typical Besta elements. I am particularly interested in how colors can be combined with the commonly used white, black-brown, and wood finishes to create a harmonious yet modern and stylish overall look.

Which color schemes do you like to use, whether in the form of wall paints, decorations, furniture, or accessories that complement the Besta system? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations, preferably with a brief explanation of why these combinations work especially well.

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Interesting question, ertansi!

I believe there’s much more you can do with the IKEA Besta system than many realize—so let’s move away from the typical “black and white” look! Sure, it’s timeless, but it can also be a bit boring.

In my opinion, color contrast is key here. A deep dark green or teal, for example, surprisingly pairs well with the classic white Besta fronts. Combined with gold or copper metal accents, this creates a luxurious feel that’s far from standard.

By the way, if you think wood finishes only mean “natural,” you’re underestimating the impact of warm red tones or mustard yellow as accents. These can help create an exciting yet cozy look.

Of course, if you prefer to play it safe, neutral tones like greige or sand work well, but if you’re bold, you should definitely “attack” with that contrast color. 😉

Hello ertansi and everyone reading,

I would like to approach this more systematically. Since IKEA Besta stands out mainly because of its wide range of fronts and color options, it makes sense to first decide on the base color of the furniture and then adjust the rest of the color scheme accordingly.

For white Besta furniture, nearly all colors typically work well, although pastel shades like soft rose, light blue, or sage green appear especially fresh and inviting.

For black-brown surfaces, I recommend more muted and warmer tones such as terracotta, warm grays, or even mustard yellow as an accent to lighten the darkness.

Wood finishes, on the other hand, provide a great foundation alongside their natural warmth for harmonious colors like olive green, ochre, or off-white that doesn’t seem too sterile.

I can only confirm that. Ultimately, it also depends on personal taste and how adventurous you want to be with your color choices.

If you like, I can also offer tips on color combinations for walls, textiles, and accessories.

I agree with Ethan and would like to add an emotional aspect: For me, the color combination is always also a part of creating a cozy atmosphere.

I feel the same way. I have white Besta myself and can confirm that especially light pastel tones in the surroundings have a calming effect. This really helps me to unwind and relax after a stressful day.

I really like that, especially when you add some plants. It creates a very natural vibe without feeling cluttered. For me, it’s also important that the combination doesn’t become too cool, as that can reduce the feeling of comfort.

Have you also had experiences with how much color in a room can influence well-being? I always find it to be a fine balance.

Hey everyone! 😃

Besta is incredibly versatile! Personally, I love it when you really bring some color into the mix!

I totally agree – that’s really stylish! I have my Besta in white and combined it with bold orange accessories, which really energizes the room!

Also, I think warm metallic tones like copper or brass give dark Besta elements a cool industrial vibe.

A little tip from me:
- Add pops of color with cushions, throws, or vases
- Paint a wall in a contrasting color (e.g., a deep dark blue or a warm mustard yellow)

This way, you can personalize your space and easily break away from the boring IKEA image! Definitely keep going and have fun decorating! 🤩
