Hello everyone,
I currently have several Billy shelves from IKEA in use and am wondering which maintenance products are best suited to protect the surface of these shelves in the long term.
Since Billy shelves are usually coated with melamine or a foil finish, I am particularly interested in cleaning and care products that do not damage the surface but provide optimal protection—especially against scratches, moisture, and discoloration.
Does anyone know of specific care products or household remedies that you would recommend?

I believe it’s perfectly fine to give your BILLY shelves a little bit of loving care! 🙂
A tip from me: Every now and then, wipe them with a damp microfiber cloth (not wet!), then spray a bit of plastic furniture polish, spread it gently, and let it dry well. This refreshes the look, makes the surface pleasantly smooth, and reduces minor scratches.
That way, the shelves feel almost like new – and that’s fun, right? 😉

Wow, this topic really hits the mark! About six months ago, I started treating my BILLY shelves with a special laminate care product – the result has been really great!
