Hello everyone,

I am looking for advice on choosing suitable cable grommets for IKEA Besta furniture. This series is often used to create TV units or home theater setups, where multiple cables need to be routed neatly and discreetly. With Besta in particular, it can be challenging to find the ideal cable grommets due to the many configuration options and different back panels. The grommets should look good and fit well without damaging the material or compromising stability.

Which types of cable grommets have you successfully installed? Are there specific sizes or designs that work especially well with Besta units? I am especially interested in options that are easy to install and provide a clean appearance, possibly with brushes or flaps to protect against dust and tangled cables.

What experiences have you had regarding installation and durability?

Looking forward to your tips and feedback!

Hey Sinnau! Great that you’re starting this topic here! 😄 I installed plastic cable grommets with brush inserts in my Besta TV unit – they’re awesome because they not only protect the cables but also keep dust out. In my opinion, you should definitely choose ones that fit exactly 60mm (2.4 inches) holes, as that’s pretty standard for Besta.

My advice: don’t just focus on the appearance, but make sure they have really good brushes, otherwise dust will still get in. Good luck with your project!

Cable gland bushings with brushes suitable for 60mm (2.4 inches) holes are the best choice. For Besta, I recommend plastic, as metal is often too heavy or complicated. Simply drill a hole, insert the bushing, and you’re done.

Hello Sinnau,

to address your question more specifically, here is a brief guide with tips regarding cable grommets for IKEA Besta:

1. First, determine the diameter of the existing hole or plan the size of the cable grommet hole. Typically, 60mm (2.4 inches) is common.
2. Make sure the grommet has either a brush or a flap to keep dust out.
3. Plastic grommets are lighter and easier to install, while metal versions are more durable but may require more effort during installation.
4. Position the grommets preferably on back panels or base parts that are stable enough to support the hole.

Common mistakes I often see are holes that are too large or missing dust protection, which quickly leads to cable clutter.

My tip: Measure several times and, if possible, test on an inconspicuous spot before damaging the furniture. Take your time; it’s worth it.

I hope this helps you!

For Besta, I always use these round plastic cable grommets with a brush, 60mm (2.4 inches) hole. Just drill the hole and insert them. That’s perfectly sufficient.

I’m glad to see the topic of cable grommets being discussed here! 😍 I used small silicone grommets in my Besta shelf. They are very flexible and shrink slightly when installed – which makes them hold firmly and protect the cables really well from abrasion. Plus, they’re barely visible, making them great for a clean setup. Definitely worth trying out! Good luck with your project! 💪
