Hello everyone, I am considering installing a few Billy bookcases from IKEA in my attic apartment. However, I have a problem: the floors here are sloped, and I am wondering which versions or variants of the Billy bookcases should be avoided on sloped floors. Are there specific models that are not suitable due to their design or dimensions because they cause stability issues or simply don’t fit? I imagine some bookcases with fixed shelves or solid side panels might be harder to adapt. I’m curious to hear if anyone has experience or tips on how to best handle sloped floors with Billy bookcases.

From a practical standpoint, the classic Billy shelves without adjustable feet are not recommended, as their design does not allow compensation for uneven floors. Shelves with fixed side panels and bottom shelves that are not height-adjustable are particularly problematic.

Adjusting the foot height with additional shims or so-called furniture wedges can help compensate but does not guarantee long-term stability.

Models with adjustable feet or the use of wall anchors to prevent tipping are advisable.

If exact angle or height measurements of the slope are available, system furniture with flexibility, specifically designed for uneven floors, can also be considered.

In summary: Avoid shelves without foot adjustment options and those that are fixed directly to the floor.
