Hello everyone,
We are currently still in the brainstorming phase and are interested in hearing about the experiences and opinions of other (potential) homeowners.
What type of basement did you have built, and why? Looking back, are you satisfied with your decision? What would you do differently now? What would you consider the most successful aspect of your basement choice?
If you haven’t built yet: What is your favorite option and why?
We have a favorite among the various basement options, but first want to see how you all vote to avoid influencing anyone.
Best regards,
Ddorfer

We have not built yet and are still in the idea development phase. At the moment, we prefer a raised basement. This offers several advantages: lower excavation costs and the possibility to use the rooms as genuine living space. What are your thoughts on raised basements? Are there any homeowners who have built with a raised basement? What are your experiences?
The question of having a basement has already been discussed in several threads here.
Basically, it depends on the plot of land, the budget, and personal preferences. Personally, I couldn't imagine building without a basement. Even in my parents' house, I found the basement very valuable. In particular, a hobby room with a table tennis table and a pool table was used very frequently. I also find a basement useful for housing the heating system and for storage space.

We are planning something similar. Simply put, we go half a story down (habitable basement) and half a story up to the ground floor, creating two accessible levels with step-free access to the garden (south side).
However, it really depends on the plot. How much soil needs to be moved and what is the groundwater situation? Often, the zoning plan (building permit / planning permission) can also be an obstacle because the overall building height is somewhat increased.

Also, the zoning plan often complicates things because the building might end up higher than allowed.Hello, that’s interesting. How exactly did you plan to make both levels barrier-free? At the front (entrance) and the back (garden)? Why did you choose a raised basement, and what does your design look like in detail? Which rooms do you plan to include there? It would be great if you could share your ideas.
