ᐅ What assembly tips can help simplify the connection of multiple Ikea PLATSA units?

Hello everyone, I am currently planning to combine several Ikea Platsa modules into a large storage system and am looking for practical assembly tips that truly make connecting the modules easier. I’m especially interested in how to join the modules securely and flush with each other, without the connections becoming wobbly or unattractive later on. Are there any proven techniques for the correct assembly order, suitable tools, or tricks to install the connection parts (e.g., screws, dowels, connector plates) more easily and precisely? What mistakes should definitely be avoided to prevent having to make corrections afterward? I would really appreciate detailed experiences or small tips that help optimize the assembly process when working with multiple PLATSA modules.

A few technical details I learned during my Platsa assembly:

- The order matters a lot: first, fully assemble each module separately, especially the side panels and bottoms.
- It is important to install the back panels before screwing the modules together, so the cross connections already provide sufficient stability.
- The original connectors (bolts + dowels) are precise, but it is recommended to check with a carpenter’s square and, if needed, to use wall rails for additional fixation.
- Tip: Applying pressure on the modules during screwing can be done with clamps, which helps prevent gaps from appearing later.
- If you stack multiple modules vertically, make sure to secure them to the wall at the end. Otherwise, the load becomes too great!

Use a drill with a depth stop to avoid drilling through the chipboard, which results in weaker connections. Also, work on a stable surface to prevent deformations during assembly.

I’m curious—have your modules already been delivered, or are you still waiting for parts?

If possible, reinforce the assembly with additional metal brackets on the inside; this significantly increases stability.

Stability is often improved by adding extra angle brackets. It is definitely worth doing.

For installation: It is important to apply even pressure and to position the bolts correctly. I recommend using a bit set with a T25 bit, as this fits best here.

The back panels are essential for the stability of all modules. Always install them before assembling the modules. This ensures stronger connections and easier alignment.

That is an important question! Tightening individual modules too early can make it impossible to adjust them later. I have also read in forums that you should avoid inserting bolts at an angle, as this can prevent the modules from fitting flush against each other.

Hey, even if it’s annoying… always do a dry fit first before screwing everything together! This way, you can easily make corrections and avoid unnecessary stress later. :-)
