lagaruHello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of an Ikea METOD kitchen cabinet under sloped ceilings and have encountered some challenges that I would like to better understand and optimize. Specifically, I am interested in which installation tips and methods have proven effective when adapting the METOD system components in rooms with angled ceilings.
The following aspects are particularly important to me:
- How should I proceed with marking and measuring to ensure that the cabinets fit properly and securely?
- Are there established techniques or tools to securely fasten the cabinets when only limited support surfaces are available?
- How do you solve the issue of mounting upper cabinets that need to be attached not flat against the wall, but on the slope?
I would appreciate any experiences, practical advice, and possibly recommendations for suitable tools to make the installation as efficient and stable as possible. Thanks in advance!

It is best to install wall cabinets with adjustable hangers to compensate for the slope. It is important not to overlook drilling and measuring. It is better to use more screws placed closer together, as stability can otherwise be compromised quickly.
Installing Ikea METOD cabinets on sloped ceilings requires careful planning, as the system is primarily designed for vertical walls.
As preparation, it is advisable to measure the slope accurately using a protractor and adjust the top edge of the cabinet to match the roof pitch. Often, the top panel or a trim piece is cut at an angle to fit flush.
Important points for mounting include:
- Using sturdy, adjustable hanging rails (as specified for METOD), possibly with additional spacer strips
- When attaching base cabinets to a sloped wall, longer screws into solid wooden beams or an extra support frame can help
- It can be beneficial to tilt the cabinets slightly backward so they rest against the ceiling rather than only hanging on the wall
Tools such as a laser level greatly assist in achieving precise alignment. Using a jigsaw to accurately trim panels is also recommended.

I completely understand how challenging it can be to install a METOD kitchen on a sloped ceiling, as I have recently gone through something similar myself.
That was exactly what helped me a lot – I hadn’t realized how important such a tool is for accurate positioning. On the other hand, I also used so-called ‘filler strips’ attached to the bottom of the cabinets to adjust them to the slope. This helped distribute the weight more evenly.
If you’re having difficulties with mounting as well, make sure to check the wall’s load-bearing capacity beforehand, since sloped ceilings can sometimes require special supports.
Please keep us updated on how things are going. We usually learn along the way and that helps others in similar situations too.
