ᐅ What assembly tips can help if IKEA Brimnes doors are difficult to close?

Hello everyone,
I recently assembled an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe model with doors, but unfortunately the doors don’t close smoothly and feel stiff, sometimes sticking when shutting. I am particularly interested in any assembly tips or adjustment options that actually help the doors close more easily and fit better.
I have already checked that all screws are tight and the hinges are installed correctly, but this hasn’t solved the problem. Maybe you have experience with door alignment, hinge adjustments, or other details that are often overlooked?
Which assembly tips would you recommend for reliably adjusting the IKEA Brimnes doors to close properly? I look forward to helpful advice, ideally with some background on how the hinges or construction work. Thank you!

I understand well how frustrating it can be when furniture doesn’t fit together as easily as you’d like.
I also had trouble with the Brimnes doors closing tightly at first – that really annoyed me. But with patience, a lot could be fixed. What I found important was to assemble the carcass completely straight and flush. Sometimes I felt that with IKEA furniture, people focus too much on the screws and forget the overall alignment.
My advice: take your time during assembly and take breaks. When you check the hinges again with a fresh perspective, you often notice which adjustment screws need turning.
Keep your spirits up – it will get better!

First of all – respect for carefully approaching the topic! 😊 For me, a tiny fine adjustment worked wonders. IKEA hinges can be quite tricky sometimes, so you have to be brave and carefully "massage" the screws.
My recommendations:
- Don’t tighten too much at first
- Instead, proceed slowly and adjust little by little
And if it gets stuck, remember, we’re building an IKEA cabinet here, not a Swiss watch – sometimes a bit of gentle force helps. 😄
Good luck!

You can also adjust the depth at the hinges, which really makes a big difference! That is correct and an important point.
I would also emphasize the importance of placing the cabinet on a hard, level surface before attaching the doors. Even slight unevenness or carpets can cause the frame to twist slightly, resulting in uneven pressure on the doors and hinges.
It is also important to ensure the hinges are clean during installation: contaminants on the hinge surfaces can impair functionality. Cleaning before installation can therefore help.
Hey everyone! 😄
I also have Brimnes doors and tried something out: The hinges were a bit stiff from the factory. So I applied a little graphite powder (dry lubricant) to the hinges. Since then, everything closes smoothly like butter! 🧈
Just be careful if you use oil, as it can easily cause stains.
Sometimes a small little helper can make a big difference when the doors feel like they’re made of concrete. Good luck with the adjustments!
