Hello everyone,

We have received different opinions from various heating system installers regarding the installation of ventilation ducts for a controlled residential ventilation system using a central ventilation unit.

1. Installing the ducts within the concrete ceiling and having the ceiling contractor include the corresponding outlets.

2. Installing the ducts on the floor with core drilling, as the structural engineer has concerns about routing them through the ceiling, and this way the expensive recesses can be avoided.

What are your experiences with this?

Thank you in advance!

Very often, they are installed into the concrete ceiling!

As mentioned at the beginning, you can do it either way. I find the option of installing it on the raw subfloor within the insulation layer more practical. I would only consider suspending it if there is absolutely no other way.

Concrete is more cost-effective. Less effort is required, and the pipes are cheaper. If the specified pipe spacing is followed, there are no issues with structural integrity. No impact sound insulation is lost either.

Our beams were placed on the precast concrete slab and then poured with concrete.

That's exactly how we have it, perfect!
