What should be considered when positioning it? Should it be placed where everyone can see it clearly (although thieves might damage it beforehand)? Or rather discreetly, but still visible in case of an alarm? Does just the visibility of a siren have a deterrent effect? What do you recommend? Best regards, Steffi33.

What does the police recommend?

Such a device has two effects:

1) Deterrence
2) "Oh, there is something to get."

If used, it should be visible and placed as high as possible, at least at the ceiling height of the first floor or at the peak of the gable wall.

Hello again... maybe you could just share a photo showing where you installed your "siren" on the house? I'm having a bit of trouble with it... these things don't exactly enhance the look of the house.. ;-) But maybe it's not as bad visually as I think..? Our electrician also says it should be installed as high as possible (at least 3.50 meters (11.5 feet)).. Best regards, Steffi33.

I don’t have any; I consider it unnecessary.

Sometimes I also wonder if I'm just being paranoid. But when everyone talks about it, you somehow catch the concern. We already have magnetic contacts on the windows and doors. But what good is all that if there’s no loud alarm or flashing lights in case of a break-in?

What have you done to improve your burglary protection?

Absolutely nothing. I believe that anyone who wants to get in will find a way.

I rely on attentive neighbors and good home insurance.

Maybe soon I’ll add some floodlights with motion sensors, but those are mainly intended for nighttime cleanup after parties.

I prefer to keep truly valuable items in a safe deposit box at the bank.

There’s no cash kept at home, and the most expensive things here are the 55" (140 cm) TV and the Thermomix.

If those go missing, I can live with it.
