rudiherbert13 Oct 2016 09:29Good day,
I am the owner of a new condominium unit in a recently built six-family house. It is a KfW 70 energy standard building with a pellet heating system and solar collectors for hot water and heating.
Although we have a small property management company, some tasks are handled by the owners themselves.
We took over the pellet storage tank half full from the developer. Now I have some questions regarding pellet orders:
- When is the best time to buy pellets?
- How much reserve should remain in the tank?
- Where do people usually buy pellets? Ours come from the Chiemgau region in Bavaria.
- Should you order pellets individually, or look for a co-buyer nearby?
- Are there differences in pellet quality?
- What is a reasonable price for approximately 6000 kg (13,228 lbs)?
- What other factors should be considered?
Thank you very much!

1. It’s best to buy pellets when the tank is almost empty 😀 We always buy in November. I haven’t noticed any significant price differences.
2. Find a pellet supplier near you.
3. Pellets should be DIN certified.
4. You can order 6 tons (6.6 US tons) on your own.
5. We pay for about 2.3 tons (2.5 US tons), around 270 €/ton (270 €/US ton) per year.
