Hi,
Today I discussed the upcoming work with my tiler. Tomorrow he will sand the anhydrite screed and in the following days lay the tiles.
During this, we also talked about the edge insulation strips. I thought that they should definitely stay in place until the tiles are installed, but he said he has always cut them off before laying the tiles. Otherwise, he would not guarantee his work (!). I had learned that these edge strips must remain until the end to maintain sound insulation. So, what is correct?

You are correct that the edge strip should only be removed after the flooring has been installed, for sound insulation reasons – you are right about that.
However, tile installers technically have the option to lay tiles at the edge with a very precise gap from the wall; this allows the tile installer to create a defined joint for the wall connection.
So both approaches are possible, but the tile installer must be very careful not to have the floor tiles touch the wall – otherwise, that would be poor workmanship.
To be sure, discuss with the tile installer how they plan to shape the perimeter joint in the tiled floor.

Ricardo-121 Dec 2014 15:25Hello,
That is a good question. About 3 months ago, the screed was laid in our house. Now I want to remove it because there is screed between the separation strip and the wall. It simply fell in there. However, I will wait to remove it until after I have installed the floor covering.
Thank you very much for the tip.

Annegret-15 Nov 2015 12:08Thank you for your responses. We are facing the same task. The tiler we want to hire also wants to remove this edge insulation strip beforehand. Now we have good reasons not to do that.
