We have received the construction schedule from the general contractor and now know when the handover with the blower door test is planned. However, the letter mentioned that the new build will still be damp at handover, and special attention must be paid to the moisture levels before installing the kitchen.

Now we are wondering what we should factor in. We are building over the summer, with completion planned for September. How long should we wait before having the kitchen installed? And how long did you wait, or would you recommend waiting, before moving in?

We want to avoid mold risks but also don’t want to pay rent unnecessarily for too long.

The kitchen will only be one of the challenges. An interesting aspect is the so-called readiness for covering of the tiles. This needs to be measured. So, after heating, painting, tiling, and moving in, with ventilation by opening windows fully three times a day in between.

The general contractor handles all the tiling and floor coverings completely. This is done before handover to us. We only do the painting work ourselves.

Hygrometers are available for just a few euros. Humidity below 65% is acceptable, but you should still ventilate regularly, as this will remain important during the first year!

We will be purchasing a unit like this. However, I am still looking for experience-based information on how long others have waited.
I can't just wait until we have been handed over the house, then bring in a hygrometer, wait until it shows below 65, and only after that terminate my rental agreement.
I am currently trying to schedule the move and kitchen installation.

You would need to find someone who managed to finish in similar weather conditions... We completed in February and installed the kitchen immediately since the measurements fit...

Can’t you go inside the house in the meantime, or how?
