What would you do differently in your next house build? (For us, there won’t be a next time, but I think beginners can benefit from our experience.) Please stay on topic and avoid lengthy discussions (feel free to start a new thread for that)!

I’ll start:
* Electrician: A network connection in every room isn’t necessary; nowadays everyone uses Wi-Fi, which is perfectly sufficient.
* Us: OK, then we’ll install one network connection per floor where the TV is going, you have to save somewhere.
* Result: At the network outlet, we get 50 Mbit/s, Wi-Fi with a repeater around 20, sometimes only about 5, Powerline adapters around 25. It’s enough for me, but the kids are disappointed. I followed all the usual advice.

I am currently still in the planning or construction phase and have a question.

Does it bother anyone who didn’t consider home automation or who has home automation in their house but would prefer to get rid of it?

Topic: KNX

No.

No, rather the opposite. [emoji6]

If you install empty conduits generously, you can easily add it later and don’t have to install comfort features initially just in case.

Then try to improve the situation a bit. If there is a network outlet on each floor, place an access point on every floor. This should ensure good Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house. It will definitely be better than relying on a repeater. If the LAN connection is also needed for the TV, you can add a switch to connect both the TV and the access point simultaneously.

Otherwise, your house is unfortunately still stuck in the 2000s. If you don’t want to invest in complex network wiring for cost reasons, at least set up a central access point on each floor.

Then my house must have also remained standing, despite my profession.
We have a Fritzbox, a PoE switch, and a NAS in the basement. On the ground floor, we have a UAP-AC-HD from Ubiquiti with no issues and excellent throughput. The iPad doesn’t need anything more than that....

There is also something in between the options "two Ethernet ports throughout the entire house" and "four in the 11sqm (118 sq ft) children’s room."

Those who are generous with conduit pipes can easily upgrade later and don’t have to install extra features just in case from the start.

Much depends on installing a star topology and/or bus wiring through existing conduit pipes. That is probably the driest theory.
