Hello everyone, maybe to encourage all construction beginners: on every building site, there are trades that still work completely smoothly and in the interest of the homeowner. It might be worth mentioning and praising them here. I’ll start:
- Electricians; quick, precise, smart, friendly, and also affordable.
- Tilers; same as above, almost invisible while working
- Floor layers, ditto
- As the crowning touch, today after the first chimney season, the chimney sweep came.
Cleaning door in the wood shelf in the living room, he arrived with brand-new shoe covers, a spotless cordless vacuum cleaner, and didn’t leave a speck of dust behind...
Wishing you many experiences like these.

All the contractor services worked well. However, it was especially important that the construction companies always kept their word. My construction folder is very thin; there is hardly any written communication, just a few messages. Everything was done verbally, and the phrase "I never said that" never came up. The spoken word was always remembered and put into action. That’s how it should be—then building is no stress.
Our painters were excellent. They had to put up with quite a bit from the tiler working alongside them (so did we). He made a real mess.
The electrician was also very good. We were simply on the same wavelength. He did his job, and I handled the KNX stuff. A perfect match. The master electrician was enthusiastic about the work, and his journeyman and apprentice were also sharp and thoughtful in the best sense.
This was the only trade for which I didn’t get any comparative quotes. I wanted to work with them.

So far, everything has been really smooth – except with the electrician, we had to follow up several times. He never took notes, which sometimes caused problems because we occasionally had special requests. But those were really minor issues, and we were always able to communicate well with him – it’s just a bit frustrating when you have to repeat things two or three times (and you naturally assume it will be done once you’ve said it). The actual work itself was top-notch though – nothing to complain about there.
So far, we have no complaints. The only area that required several repeated discussions was electrical work and kitchen installation, until our "special requests" were implemented accordingly.
Construction is running smoothly so far. I also visit the site at least twice a day and casually chat with the tradespeople.
Compared to other homeowners in our development, we probably take a more hands-on approach to the whole process, but we also rely on the expertise of the craftsmen (which we lack).
