FrankChief15 Feb 2023 10:11Hello,
we need your input to help us choose the right wood color for our flooring.
We are still looking for the floor for the upper floor and attic hallway and rooms, and we want to install the same floor throughout.
We plan to install a vinyl/design floor ourselves in the upper hallway and rooms. Which look would you recommend?
We like a darker wood tone, but are concerned it might clash too much with the relatively light beech staircase.
Here are a few examples we are considering. Feel free to suggest others as well.
We mainly need help with the look.
Just to clarify, we do not want parquet. Only laminate or vinyl/design flooring were options for us, and from what I found, vinyl is better than laminate.
Please do not recommend parquet instead.

Jurassic13515 Feb 2023 10:34A photo of the beech staircase/the shade would be helpful. Beech wood can vary quite a bit depending on the treatment. Is it the classic, warm orange tone with a slightly glossy lacquer? That’s the type of staircase we have, and in my opinion, almost nothing with a wood look matches it well, unless it’s exactly the same beech tone. It’s very warm and reddish, which clashes with other shades from my point of view. But this is subjective—some people happily combine beech with other woods and don’t mind the contrast. We have a light carpet upstairs and beige-gray tiles in the hallway on the ground floor, which at least coordinates well.
However, I find the beech tone quite old-fashioned and incompatible with all the colors I like, so I’m currently in the process of painting it white.
So the question is: what does the rest of your house look like? Does the beech match your other furnishings? Or would beech flooring or furniture be a no-go for you? If so, you might want to reconsider the color of the staircase.
But maybe you have a very different, more modern beech tone, so a photo would definitely help.

FrankChief15 Feb 2023 10:48Sorry, I forgot that you still need the color of the stair treads.
I would say we will go with the standard beech.
The stair treads are lacquered.
We will probably paint the stair railing anthracite.
The ground floor tiles are gray, and many of our furniture pieces are white.
I have attached a photo of the tread.

FrankChief15 Feb 2023 12:07Natural beech is very light.
We wanted either a darker wood tone (photo 3) or a wood/gray tone (photos 1 and 2).
However, we did not want a wood tone similar to the stairs (we are not fans of beech); the extra cost for a different staircase was huge.
That’s why I’m looking for your advice on which floor would match well.
