my wife and I are interested in an old end-terrace house (built in 1925) that is currently up for auction. It appears that sections of the exterior plaster have been renewed in some areas. At first, I thought this was just due to a pipe or cable being installed and then the wall replastered. However, after taking a closer look, I have a different suspicion.
It seems to me that some kind of wall anchor has been retrofitted. As I mentioned, I have no expertise and find it difficult to assess the situation properly. Inside the house, I cannot see any cracks at these locations, and there is definitely no fresh plaster covering anything up, since the wallpaper has been there for about 30 years.
Does anyone have an idea of what was done here and, more importantly, why?
Thanks for any help. Regards, jeffreybln

Ask if, before the war, it possibly wasn’t the last house in the row. The open space may have resulted from, for example, bombing. In that case, a later stabilization of the wall might have been necessary, even though it was originally intended to be just a partition wall. In my opinion, the fact that there are no windows at all in the entire wall supports this possibility.
