Benni128Hello everyone,
this is my first post here in the forum. I am renovating a house from 1981 in Switzerland. The house has underfloor heating and a hollow-core slab ceiling (suspended clay blocks). As far as I understand, there is a concrete slab above that, and on top of it, the screed, which is oddly 11.5cm (4.5 inches) thick. Since I want to install a glass railing at the staircase, with aluminum mounting rails embedded in the floor, I need to remove a strip of the screed around the staircase. Because this creates a lot of dust and dirt, I wanted to ask beforehand if anyone knows what type of screed this might be.
As far as I know, the following types of screed were mainly used at that time:
Cement screed
Anhydrite screed
Mastic asphalt screed
Magnesia screed
However, I lack the experience to identify which one this might be in my case. I chipped away a strip with a chisel. The consistency was hard and brittle but noticeably easier to chip away than concrete.
The grey-orange part between the screed and the concrete is just a piece of the railing anchoring.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards
