Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble the IKEA Brimnes bedroom furniture set soon and wanted to ask the forum if you have any specific tool recommendations for the assembly.

I understand that an Allen key is usually included. However, I have found that especially with larger furniture pieces, a few additional tools can be helpful to save time and make the assembly easier.

I am particularly interested in tools that simplify and make the assembly safer, such as suitable screwdrivers, cordless drill settings, or useful accessories like angle guides or rubber mallets.

Are there any particular features of the Brimnes model regarding the screws or materials that require special tools? Which tools have you used specifically and would recommend?

I appreciate any practical tips, even small tricks that improve or speed up the assembly process.

Thanks in advance!

That’s correct, and for the IKEA Brimnes bed as well as the individual cabinets, the included Allen key generally provides the basic tools needed.

However, my recommendation is to definitely use a small cordless drill with adjustable torque. This helps prevent over-tightening the screws, which is especially important for the particleboard that Brimnes uses.

I also suggest having the following for assembly:
- A better Phillips screwdriver that fits comfortably in the hand and doesn’t slip,
- A rubber mallet,
- A small square or corner brace to better align parts,
- And definitely a clean workspace to keep everything from sliding around.

For somewhat more complex double beds, patience is also required, as the instructions sometimes refer to small details.

In my experience, the included tools are adequate, but having your own small screwdriver and a cordless drill makes the process much more pleasant.

To complement the already helpful tips, I would like to offer some specific recommendations to make assembling the IKEA Brimnes set easier:

- Cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque: As Raymond mentioned, this is important to avoid damaging the screws in the particleboard panels. Ideally, choose a model with good speed control that is also compact.

- Hex key with handle: The small hex keys provided do not have handles and can be tiring to use over time. A set with ergonomic handles or a small screwdriver bit for hex screws makes the work easier.

- Rubber mallet: For gently tapping in dowels and trim pieces. This is important because regular hammering can damage the surface.

- Carpenter’s square or try square: Especially useful when assembling multiple modules, to ensure the corners join at exact right angles.

- Sandpaper or a small sanding block: To smooth out minor uneven areas before screwing parts together, if needed.

- Optional: A clamping aid such as a clamp, in case you do not have a second person to hold parts in place while screwing.

Additionally: Using a firm surface for assembly (such as a carpet or a soft blanket) protects the surface from scratches.

The Brimnes system uses somewhat different connectors (cam lock fasteners), so carefully reading the instructions is worth every second. An organized workspace with sorted components also helps.

Ensure there is enough light during assembly.

A larger cordless drill with variable speed is really valuable.

Don’t forget a rubber mallet to avoid dents.

A screwdriver with a comfortable grip saves time.

I completely agree! A rubber mallet is like a magic wand when assembling Brimnes. You tap the parts together – gently and without rushing.

Personally, I also like to carry a small multitool with different bits so I don’t have to keep swapping the Allen key. It’s really helpful if you need to slightly loosen a screw in between.

I also recommend tightening the screws loosely at first and only fully tightening them at the end to avoid putting too much pressure in the wrong places.

And hey, if you’re working alone, take a little break now and then – assembly can be a bit tedious, but good music makes it much easier.

Good luck and happy building!
