Hello everyone,

I will have a reinforced concrete staircase with wooden boards as steps. My wife wants the risers painted white. I personally like the look, but I’m concerned about what happens if someone kicks it with their shoe. Is there a special type of paint that is easy to clean in such cases?
Does anyone have any tips?

Has no one painted the gable end white?

Hello Perlenmann,
you and your pearl will probably need to clean more often.
You probably mean the risers on the stairs, right? Since these are made of concrete, in my non-professional opinion, concrete paint (available in many colors) would be suitable. It is flexible, waterproof, washable, and so on.
Now you just need to decide on the color with the pearl.
On a serious note – why not ask a professional painter and decorator? Occasionally, (good) DIY stores also have knowledgeable advisors for paint who really know their craft.
Good luck and success with your build.

No! Most homebuilders choose either a wooden staircase or a concrete staircase with tile or stone covering.

Wallpapered wall tiles or laminated carpet are also not very common.

Well, that’s very helpful

But my wife doesn’t want tiles because then you get grout lines on the stairs (our tiles are only available up to 90cm (35 inches) wide) and she doesn’t like that. And even if I were to use tiles, it looks much nicer if the stair riser is left without tiles, meaning white. (That’s our taste)
And a wooden staircase is not an option either!
But I will probably go with white laminated marble parquet.

Hello!

Laminate parquet... now it gets a bit confusing. Why have so few (around 0) used this kind of construction so far!?

Is it because plastic looks cheap? Because it is very sensitive to dirt? Because it is difficult to make a clean 1-meter (3.3 feet) longitudinal cut with DIY tools? Because the cut edges absorb moisture and swell? Because the invisible fastening method is not exactly easy either?

If it absolutely has to be white: consider using a white tile as the "end face," around 120 cm (47 inches) long, or natural stone—which might be more expensive. Or this compressed marble powder (artificial stone) that is also used for window sills.

Best regards,
Tom.

Oh TomTom, you didn’t get Perle’s joke (laminated white marble parquet).

The man who deals with Perle is stuck with the dilemma that Perle wants white stair treads. That point doesn’t seem open for discussion.
The wooden covering for the steps is apparently already decided, and they don’t want gaps, so the options are getting limited.

Perle, why don’t you use white painted wood for the stair treads?
